MISSION REPORT: Over a hundred friends, surrounding community firefighters, and family gathered in the Hillcrest Catholic Cemetery for services for Eugene "Foggy" Gomes (Foggy is pronounced with a long O.) Our hero was transported from the Mendocino Fire Station on the hose deck of a vintage fire truck. The escort, including a collection (8-10) large fire trucks from surrounding communities, passed by his home and traversed the main thoroughfares of town.

Five PGR members bearing large US flags bracketed the entrance to the cemetery as the procession arrived, and followed to a position above the family and friends gathered for services. A stiff breeze whipped the US flags into a snapping fury, and in the background the Pacific Ocean was white with foam as waves broke against the rugged California coast. Graveside religious services were held, followed by three volleys of rifle fire and a bugler playing taps.

Thank you, Foggy, for your service to our country. And thank you for over 50 years of service to the community of Mendocino. And finally, thank you to the family, for allowing our presence, it was truly an honor.

Thank you PGR, Spike, Freier Tuck, Sarge, and Mike, for your dedication to the mission.
