My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Cpl. Robert Mason. Welcome Home.

May the road rise up to meet you.

*****************MISSION COMPLETE*******************

On an overcast morning, 7 PGR members gathered at the Belpre, OH home of OH PGR member Jim Rarey, a U.S. Navy Veteran of OEF, to prepare to stand in Honor and Respect of Cpl Robert L. Mason, U.S. Army Korean War MIA who is completing his long journey home from the fields of North Korea.

As we were maintaining our flag line, we met another Veteran of the Forgotten War who had journeyed down from Detroit, MI to also pay his respects to Cpl Mason.  We learned this Veteran had been less than 100 yards from Cpl Mason when his position was overrun by enemy forces shortly after Thanksgiving dinner on November 28, 1950 in a location North of the DMZ, a mere 34 miles from the border with China.  We also had the pleasure of meeting another Veteran who was one of those who had served that Thanksgiving dinner to Cpl Mason and his fellow soldiers.  To meet both of these American Heroes and hear their stories was truly inspirational to me.

We maintained our flag line during visitation hours from 1000-1300, breaking away during the services.  PGR plaque was presented to Cpl Mason's NOK, his nephew Ron, prior to commencement of services.

We re-established our flag line as Cpl Mason was moved from the funeral home to the hearse by members of the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Fort Knox, KY, for the short journey to the cemetery.

Leading the procession, we once again set our line for graveside services, concluding with rifle salute and taps.

My thanks to all who journeyed to Belpre to stand for another American hero as he was finally returned home to his final rest on American soil.  A special thanks goes out to the PGR members who journeyed in from Dayton and Columbus, OH and to WV RC Buddy Palla who juggled his work schedule to travel up from Charleston.  An extra special "Thank You" is offered to God Almighty for granting us good conditions to conduct this mission safely and allow our members a safe return home.

Welcome Home Cpl Mason.  Your long journey is now complete.  May you rest in honored peace from now until eternity.  God Speed Robert.
Respects,
Joe
