|
'No Greater Love is this that a man is willing to lay down his life for another.' Only two men were willing to sacrifice their lives for us-Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. Neither of which can ever fully be repaid.
Thank you for your Service and my Freedoms. Your sacrifices will never go unnoticed. I am grateful to live in a country made up of volunteers like you. Your choice to protect our Nation and put your self on the line can never be repaid.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of SSGT Jerry G. Baijot, USAF, Viet Nam Veteran. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. He is
one of America's Heroes that will never be forgotten.

To Jerry, Welcome Home Brother and Thank You for your Service to our Country. Stand Down your mission on this earth is now complete. Final Inspection
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.

On sunday morning as I got ready to leave, my thaughts were with the family of this fallen warrior. I had the honor of meeting his brother Mickey friday night at his motel room to discuss the wishs of the family. As you have seen earlier, Mickey is one of our brother PGR members so he was ready with things he wanted, this made things alot easier on me as this was my first misson as the lead RC. We discussed a couple of ideals I had and came up with a working plan, all of this running around in my mind, I pulled out and headed for the funeral home. When I arrived, Jeff Sanders and Greg Smith were there waiting on me. We all got together and discussed our plans for the day and then pulled out heading to the staging area. When we arrived at the staging area there was a couple of PGR members, a CMA member from Knoxville, and a few Rolling Thunder Chapter 4 members there already. As we were getting ready to pull out, Mickey came to the staging area and went to each and every person there and shook our hand and told us thank you. As we were about to pull out 17 bikes, 18 riders and 2 cagers, Bristol VA police department gave us an escort to the funeral home, the unit that did this could not have been more fitting, it was a K-9 unit.
We arrived at the funeral home, everyone took up flags and stood the line. About 10 minutes after we were set up, the skys opened up. At this point we were directed to move into the lobby and under the carport. We got a break in the rain so we all moved outside and returned to our post. Just about 20 minutes before standdown, the skys opened again and we again took post in the lobby and under the carport. At this point Gary from CMA began walking people to and from their ars with an umbrella. When we stood down, we were invited to stay for the services, most did, only a couple had to leave. After the services, we were again approched by members of the family to say thanks.
Monday, Mickey had ask that Jeff and I escort his brother to the graveside as there was not supposed to be a possesion. When I arrived at the funeral home, there were about 6 cages of family there, Blevins funeral Home's staff got on the phone and made the arangements and got escort set up. We pulled out into the rain and headed to the gravesite. All the way it was raining, all I could think about was that I was glad that the family will be under cover at the gravesite and not have to stand in the rain to say goodbye. As we got to Mt. Home, The local VFW Honor Guard was getting setup. We pulled up to the gravesite and Gary from CMA was there along with one PGR member. The members of Rolling Thunder Chapter 4 were ask to be pallbearers, there were 20 members there waiting. They posted along the walkway as we took up flags and posted on each side or the hearst and along the walkway. When the services started, we took post to close in the family. When the service was over, we moved along the walkway as they carried Jerry back to and loaded him into the hearst. As his daughter pased, she stopped at each and everyone of us and shook our hand and thanked us for doing this for her dad. As Mickey came by, he gave each of us a hug and thanked us for doing this for his brother. After the family returned to their cars, we stood down.
This was a great honor to take Jerry home. This will always be a special mission to me as it was my first lead. I am so proud of the work done together by CMA, RT 4, and PGR on this day, there is only one thing left to say
MISSION COMPLETE |
