Thank you, Carkie, for your honorable service to this great country. To have had the honor of serving aboard Air Force One through three different Presidents speaks volumes as to the type of Airman you were. Your service shall not be forgotten. May God welcome you with open arms as you approach the Gates of Heaven.
May your family take comfort in knowing you are in a far better place and continue to watch over them from your place among the Angels.
From all of us in the PGR, thank you for inviting us to participate in your Father's final services. It was our honor to attend.
May you rest in eternal peace Carkie. God Speed. Respects, Joe

Under scattered clouds and warming temperatures, the Patriot Guard Riders met to pay respects to Carter Henry, USAF Veteran. The family of this man, who had served aboard Air Force One under three Presidents, had invited us to take part in the funeral services, both at the Funeral Home and at the cemetery. We, from West Virginia were joined by a half dozen of our brothers and sisters from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. They were welcomed by our own members, as usual. The separation between the two states seems to disappear at times when we are needed to combine our efforts to pay our respects to a Veteran. Their presence brought our total to eleven members.
A flag line was formed as the time approached for the family and mourners to arrive. It was maintained until the services began. At the conclusion of the services, the line was reestablished until the procession was ready to make the trip to the country cemetery on the other side of town.
A Monongalia County Police cruiser led the long line of cars through the downtown area and on to the cemetery. Our motorcycles and two cages were placed behind the Cruiser and the hearse. I must mention that on the route through town, some workers from the university and some from the DOH paused and placed their hats over their hearts as the entire procession passed slowly by them. It was a heart warming gesture that was noticed by the mourners.
After a trip up a dusty secondary road, we reached the cemetery and formed a flag line to the rear of the hearse. An Honor Guard stood by as the flag draped casket was carried to its final resting spot. The services were then carried out, followed by the firing of the traditional three vollies of rifle fire and the sounding of " Taps".
State Captain, Joe Cumblidge presented the family with a plaque expressing the gratitude of the PGR for Mr. Henry's service to his country. We then departed the cemetery for the ride home.
I want to thank all of our members, especially the members who rode down from Pennsylvania for attending this Mission of Honor. I also thank the many members from across the country who left messages of condolence and offered prayers for Mr. Henry and his family.
Respectfully Submitted by John E. Schwartz Ride Captain
