To the Family of Pvt. Smith, our thoughts and prayers will be with you in the many days ahead.

Thank you for the mission you gave to your life in protecting our freedoms, and striving to give others, theirs. The lives of you and the men and women who have gone before you are raised high, and not given in vain. I honor you, and pray that our children will learn to do the same throughout coming generations. God bless your family, and may they keep their memories alive and rejoice in the life of a hero.

With regret and sympathy for the family of U.S. Army PVT Tyler J. Smith, I offer these poor words of consolation. When I was young and a Private, I stood in the ranks with other young men...who through shared toil and hardships, became my friends...my brothers. As I grew older and became an NCO...I looked upon the young soldiers with a sense of responsibility...as a father. Now I am an 'Old Soldier', far removed from the ranks that I loved...and I look upon them all... as a grandfather would. When I read the few words which report the loss of another member of our armed forces, it creates a true sorrow. I can only imagine what the family must be going through. Please know that many people have you in their thoughts and prayers. God Bless You.

To the Family and Friends of Pvt. Tyler Smith, My sincerest condolences go out to all. I, along with all those that I love and cherish, are forever grateful for the supreme sacrifice that Tyler made while serving his country. We thank him for the peace, comfort and security that his valor has given us here at home so that we could lead "normal" lives. We will never forget him and the fact that he gave so much for something that so few seem to treasure these days...freedom. Thank you Tyler for your dedication. Thank you to Tyler's parents for raising such a fine young man who exemplified all that is still good in America. May God grant Tyler eternal peace and strength to all that knew him. Standing by to honor and pay tribute to Maine's finest.
