My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of "PJ." I am an ex-Navy "Airdale" and served on both the Forrestal and Shangrala. Each carrier had a special name The USS "Bonny Dick" had a glorious history and distinguished fighting record along with all that served on her. RIP Sailor, smooth sailing and great sunsets/liberty ports from now on.

Lt. Gov. Quinn, I have met you several times at PGR missions all over the state. I ware my Illinois pin (that you gave me) with pride. It is one of the few pins I have on my PRG vest. Work meetings and a Diabities training class prevent me from attending your Dad's wake and funeral. I will be there in sprit and hope you understand.

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."

It gives me great sadness each time we lose one more of these incredible people from the "Greatest Generation". So much that is "great" in our country was born on the backs of these wonderfull people. So much strength, so much character, so much resolve. They are the "best of the best" and I have no doubt that there is a very special place in God's Kingdom that awaits them. I am eternally greatfull to YN1 Patrick (PJ) Quinn, for not only his sacrifice and service to our Nation, but also for the shining example of how we should conduct ourselves in our time on this rock. Thank you sir. Until we all meet again....
