Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of SMFC Charles " Putt " Deaton, Thanks for being our hero. God Bless. And God Bless, The fellow soldiers that stands for us everyday.Thank you for your dedicated service and sacrifice to defend this great nation of ours.

We salute you , My Friend

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."

**********************MISSION COMPLETE***************************

This day began under bright sun and very cold temperatures but 6 PGR members gathered at the First Baptist Church in Sistersville to prepare to pay Honor and Respect for another Veteran member of this country's "Greatest Generation", USAF Veteran Charles "Putt" Deaton.
Although Putt's passing was not totally unexpected and considered by his family to be a welcome relief for him, it was understandably a shock to them.  In speaking with his son, Putt would have been extremely proud and grateful for the gratitude we attempted to show him today.
Both of Putt's sons, Chuck and Steve, and their wives thanked each member personally for our attendance today, stating how patriotic their Father was and how he instilled the same in each of them.  Maintaining our flag line while members of his family, his friends and others in the community entered, the vast majority thanked each of us for what we were doing.  One elderly woman saluted each and every flag as she walked passed our line.
Falling in behind the procession, we proceeded to the Friendly Cemetery under the escort of the Sistersville City Police, taking our place off to the side of the family for graveside services.  At this time, prior to commencement of services, the plaque and copy of the mission thread were presented to Putt's eldest son, Chuck.
At the conclusion of a short graveside service, we quietly made our way to our vehicles and departed for our homes.
Many thanks to Barry (ASC PA), Jay and Don ("Tinkerbell") for making the trip down from Pennsylvania to stand with us today.  Thank you, too, to Steve and Mike for also attending.  Without each of you, this mission could not have been accomplished.
Thanks also goes to Randy Myers of Myers Funeral Home for his cooperation and assistance with this mission and to the Sistersville Police for their escort.
Finally, a special "Thank You" to USAF Veteran of WWII, Charles "Putt" Deaton for your honorable service to our country.  May you forever rest in peace.  God Speed Putt.
Respects,
Joe
