As I stood at the highway tonight waiting for CPL Shearer's going home escort to pass by holding an American flag in one hand, and the other hand at salute, I could not help but feel the loss. The family and friends are facing a hole that no amount of words can fill. The community will sense a void that only a small town can feel, that sense of knowing that a part of them is also gone. We as Americans will also lose because one more young protector will not be here to keep us safe.

But thank God, and the parents of brave young men and women, that we have the type of country we do. There is no better place in this world to live than here, period. Fortunately, our young , just as CPL Shearer did, knew that freedom is not free.

Am standing by for honor guard duty. Will stand with pride to be able to honor this fallen American. Rest well.
