I would like convey my deepest condolences to the family and friends of this American hero who stood tall for their homeland. I know this is a very sad time in your lives but remember you knew a hero first hand the rest of us just get to hear about them. Please know that your loved one is now serving in the Army of our Lord and Savior in heaven and the Lord said if I go to prepare a place for you,and if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again and recieve you unto myself that where I am there you may be also. Know that it says in the Bible in 2nd Corinthians 5:8 ,We are confident I say, willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. No one can ever say that your loved one isn't a hero they were willing to serve when so many aren't or feel that they don't want to because of fear or misplaced loyalty. I would like you to know that not just me but a country full of Americans are free because of the sacrifice they made in the name of freedom. May God Bless each and everyone of you

Sgt Angel, II, you are appreciated for your willingness to stand for the freedoms of others. I know you are walking now with all our fallen warriors who have gone before you, in the loving presence of our Lord. Rest easy now, Jeffrey....you will not be forgotten.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. As a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. To the family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of what you are going through-my son, a Marine LCpl, was killed in Iraq. I pray wonderful memories of your dear warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Your hero will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve. God bless you. Julie Francis, Matt's Mom

My sincere appreciation to both Bob and Jack for helping meet the family's wishes that Scott be given a Hero's Welcome Home, as he deserved.  My apologies for not being able to be there also.  I will make every effort to attend visitation services today, albeit in a cage.

Let's go West Virginia!  We must support ALL families in general and one of our own in particular.  If you're only able to attend one portion of today's mission, please make every effort to do so.
Respects,
Joe

Arrived home safely around 2115 last evening.  Sorry for not posting sooner.  Unfortunately, PGR participation in this most honorable escort and visitation leaves a lot to be desired, in my eyes, BUT, the participation, support and patriotism shown by the Valley High School cheerleaders, football players, coach and area residents as THEY stood the flag line was absolutely awesome!  My hat is off to the residents of Smithers, WV and surrounding communities for the values and pride you instill in your children.  Patriotism and support for our troops is alive and well in South Central West Virginia!!!  Thank you all!

Thank you, also, to Jack, Bob, Ron and Paul for taking time out of your days to stand in silent tribute to another West Virginia Hero.  My sincere apologies for having to leave the line early and for being absent today.

Scott...the love for you was very evident to me as I watched members of the community arrive to pay their respects.  Rest assured, you have left your mark in this world and will never be forgotten.

God Speed son.  Photos will be submitted for posting shortly.
Respects,
Joe

***************MISSION COMPLETE****************** SGT Jeffery Scott Angel II was laid to rest today in a beautiful hilltop cemetary near Ansted, WV, very close to his home at Gauley Bridge. The response from the local community has been overwhelming. The mission began on Wednesday, 09/19/07, as SGT Angel was being returned via ground transport. Two PGR riders were able to join and provide escort on the final leg of the journey to Gauley Bridge. Many local well wishers were on hand. A local military honor guard was present to assist. On Thursday, the PGR provided escort from Gauley Bridge(Pennington Funeral Home) to Smithers, WV(Valley High School) for a scheduled 6:00 -8:00PM viewing. Since the PGR numbers were a little small(5 members), we ask the school for volunteer help. Immediately the varsity cheerleading squad changed into game uniforms and were ready for the flagline to form. As soon as football practice ended and the guys had time to shower, they donned their game jerseys and joined the line also. The limit to our numbers were the number of flags we could find. By 4:30 the parking lot was filling up and large numbers of people standing around, so they decided to start the viewing. Our flag line was up as hundreds and hundreds of friends and neighbors filed by. This continued until 8:30PM when Mrs. Angel called a halt to the vewing. At one point during the viewing I overheard a cell phone conversation of a young man giving directions to a friend on how to find us. He said, " Just come on down 60. You can't miss it. They got flags all over the place." The evening ended with an escort back to Gauley Bridge and a cold, dark ride home. On Friday, the flag line was again in place at the Pennington Funeral Home, again with the assistance of the Valley High School cheerleaders. As the night before, the outpourong of respect from the community filled the small chapel to more than double it's capacity as a grateful community said goodbye to one of it's favorite sons. The final flag line was set at the entrance to the Restlawn Memorial Cemetary and we listened and watched as the bagpipes played "Amazing Grace", the honor Guard fired three volleys, the lone bugler played "Taps", and the flag was slowly and carefully folded and presented to the widow. Thank you again PGR for your attendence and help. A special heartfelt thanks to the Valley cheerleaders, Katie, Haley, Emily, and Sarah; to the football players, Travis, Cameron, Austin, Jack, and Jamie; to the firefighters, Michael and Tony. Bob"T-Bone" Smith - "You made it go, my friend." "May your rest be peaceful, Scott. A grateful nation thanks you for your service and sacrifice. You will not be forgotten. God speed." Respectfully, Jack R. Kalmar - RC
