MAIN STAGING DETAILS:
8:00 – 8:30 AM Main staging will be in the parking lot of Heron Lake Community Center located at the corner of 10th street and 3rd Avenue in Heron Lake. 10th street is also known as Main Street and also as County Road 9 where it intersects with MN Hwy 60 at Heron Lake.
8:30-8:40 AM Mission Briefing
8:45 AM (est) Hearse arrives at church. We will ride from staging area
to church to make formation for escort. Bikes will remain parked in front of hearse during visitation and the funeral Mass.
9:00 AM (est) Form flag line as Billy Martin’s casket is carried into the church. Right hand over heart, Veterans salute. We will then form our visitation flag line prior to arrival of family.
9:10 AM (est) Family arrives for visitation.
9:30 AM Visitation begins
10:30 AM Funeral Mass begins
11:15 – 11:30 AM (est) Funeral ends, lead funeral procession approximately 2
miles on County Road 9 to Sacred Heart Cemetery.
11:45 AM (est) Form flag line during internment.
12:15 PM (est) Dismissed when family departs cemetery.
For this mission, if you have 2 flags please bring them. We will remain parked in front of the hearse for the visitation and Mass funeral service in preparation for the cemetery escort. It would be nice to have flags on the bikes while they are parked as well as on our flag line. Escort speed to the cemetery will be less than 30 MPH so flags can remain unfurled for escort.
Please remember to bring your own water, a 3x5 foot flag and pole, sun screen, and dress according to the weather forecast. We must be self-sufficient. Current forecast for Saturday in Heron Lake is partly cloudy with a high in the mid-80’s, but this is Minnesota and the weather is always subject to change!
Please cover any patches that I would have to explain to my Grandmother, Mother or Children – Thank You !!
Below is a link which will bring you to a map of Heron Lake where you can locate the staging area at 10th street and 3rd Avenue:

| There will be a luncheon afterwards and all of you PGR riders are invited. You are a surprise to my Minnesota family but I've made arrangements to have enough food on hand for you after the military rites at the cemetery. Please come and partake.
Forever grateful and honored.

56 Patriot Guard Riders from MN, IA, FL and approx 50 bikes made the trip to Heron Lake, MN on Saturday, Sept 1st to stand in Honor of Vietnam Veteran Billy Martin and in support for his Family. We were invited to stand by Billy's wife, Janet.
After the mission briefing we proceeded to the church where 7 bikes formed a missing man formation and parked next to the hearse. The other bikes lined the street down from the church for the escort to the cemetery following the funeral Mass.
We were humbled and Honored to be asked to be pall bearers for Billy Martin as we carried his casket from the hearse into the church. We then stood in Honor during the visitation and funeral Mass.
Following the Mass, we formed our flag line as Billy's body was placed in the hearse. The missing man formation led the hearse and family with the remaining bikes falling in behind the family and in front of the other guests at the funeral.
At the cemetery we formed a semi-circle around the family and guests during the internment and burial with full military rights. We stood until the family departed the cemetery to return for the church.
We also presented Janet with four "Mission Accomplished" pins which she gave to her nieces and nephews in Honor of Billy.
Janet Martin very generously invited all Patriot Guard Riders to join the family for the dinner at the church and also gave me a very nice thank you note which read:
Your presence today for my husband, Billy, a fallen Vietnam Vet and Navy retiree, is the honor and closure he deserves and I am grateful beyond words to your organization.
My family will be overwhelmed and see how this very humble man was there for them, serving and protecting our GREAT Country.
My hat's off to ALL of you. GOD BLESS AMERICA
Jan Martin
I would also like to give special thanks to Ed Hansen of Hansen Funeral Home for his assistance in planning the Patriot Guard details for this mission. Thanks also goes to Heron Lake Chief of Police Dennis Waldron and his officers for their assistance with the escort to the cemetery.
And last, but by no means least, a very big thank you to Ken Pederson, Worthington Assistant Ride Captain, for planning many of the details and helping to lead this mission.

Respectfully submitted,
