Dear Lord, another Marine has fallen. Not through combat this time, he had already been there and came home. But through a sensless auto accident. I pray that you will be with the family and friends of SSgt. Barrette, to comfort them and give them solice as they grieve this tragic loss.

I would like to add my sincere condolences to the family and friends of SSgt. Mark Barrette, and profound gratitude to SSgt. Barrette for his service to the United States of America. At the same time we bow our heads to bid this heroic American 'farewell', we will all stand a little taller, and draw inspiration from the fact that he was one of us.

| SSgt Barrette, we as a nation thank you for your service as a US Marine, and for your willingness to defend and protect our freedoms; for these things, you are a true American hero. To Mark's family, I offer my prayers and support. My son, also a Marine, was killed last year in Iraq. I truly am sorry for your loss, especially after Mark served a successful tour in Iraq; any loss is tragic, but this is a very difficult thing to deal with. I hope happy memories of Mark help to eventually ease the pain you now endure. I also pray the support of friends, family and even strangers helps to bring you comfort during this trying time. God bless you. Julie Francis, Matt's Mom |

Thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. As a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. To the family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of what you are going through-my son, a Marine LCpl, was killed in Iraq. I pray wonderful memories of your dear warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Your hero will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve. God bless you. Julie Francis, Matt's Mom |

SSgt Mark Barrette, you will be missed. You are in the company of the greatest our nation can produce. Not everyone, even the very best, get killed in combat with the enemy. Our greatest fighter pilot ace of WWII, Richard Bong (unfortunately of the ARMY Air Corps) made it through the war alive, but was killed in California, testing a jet. It's not how you die, it's how you live. I will spend the rest of my life hoping to reach as high as you have reached in service to our country. Bless you, Mark. Sleep well.
I will attend. I will meet anyone who would like to ride from SW RI. I will leave the Shell station at exit 93 in CT on I-95 NLT 0645. I will go up 216 and 49 to Voluntown, 138 to I-395, to 290, to 190, to 140 to Westminster. Meet me at the Shell, or on the way, like at the Chucky's in Voluntown on 138.
I'm on the road today (Sunday), so won't be able to answer any online questions until late tonight. Ride Safe! |

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. | John Shewmaker-This forum and the PGRs sole reason for what they do, is to pay tribute to and honor the men and women who served our country...............to give them the dignity they so deserve. These riders were a phenonmenal and priceless piece to honoring Mark. SSGT Barrette's family & other special people & close friends, are in a deep time of mourning. This is not the time, nor the place to throw slanderous comments out. Take it somewhere else! RIP my friend.......Your service is benefitting millions of people and will continue to, for years on end. JAF |
