Sgt. Brand, thank you for your service, and ultimate sacrifice. All who have served with you, whether in this conflict, or former conflicts, salute you. Rest easy, now.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

— John Gillespie Magee, Jr

Thank you, Sgt. Emerson N. Brand for your service to this Nation. It is because of Patriots such as you that I, my family, and the rest of this great Nation are able to lead the lives we do. It is the soldier that gives us freedom, not the politicians. Only two people ever died for our freedoms. One was Jesus Christ and the other was the American Soldier. The least I can do is pay homage and respect to this Hero and his family.
To the family of this American Hero: We as a Nation grieve with you in the loss of one of our Nation’s best. His adherence to “Duty to God and Country” will not be forgotten. Death is a time to rejoice in the life someone had and the lives they touched on this earth. Life is but a blink of an eye. May the Great Architect take this Hero and his family into his council, protect and heal them.

You don't have to love war, but you do have to love the Warrior!

The sound of 200 people holding flags -- is deafening.

SGT Brand was my first team leader.

He was a really good guy, on his second tour to Iraq.

We served together in Delta CO 1/3 INF (The Old Guard). Sgt Brand spent over 2 years in the Old Guard where he was on a casket team conducting funerals in Arlington National Cemetary with me and 4 other soldiers. I can remember countless times when i would look at SGT Brand and he would shoot me that goofy smile when something just didnt add up. SGT Brand was a character, he once put on a superman suit and wore it to a Nationals Game, he was that kind of guy always out to make a good laugh. I talked to him right before he left for Iraq and he was happy to go back.

This one is for you SGT Brand, you will be remembered always.
