Nathaniel, my heart is heavy as adddress your family in your behalf, as the tears of a nation,and of Texas are falling.
To the Given family my prayers and tears wash upon the values that Nathaniel found in his quest for his nitch.
He is now learning to use the wings that God gives his angels and will use them to comfort his Family,friends, and community.

My brother was the Recruiting Station Commander at the Texas City recruiting station where PFC Given enlisted. My brother called me the night that he found out about Given's death --- he told me that in his 6 years of recruiting duty, that Given's is the first one of "his" soldiers who has been killed in action.

From that very first day that PFC Given was killed, my brother told me that the Given family already knew about the PGR, and was already asking how to make sure that we were involved in honoring their son. I'm glad to see that we'll be able to help the Givens in honoring their son.

I wrote about PFC Given here, including a picture from the family.

The Spirit of My Soldier
by Mirian Gilbert

I feel the spirit of my soldier
all around my home
It comforts me to feel
that I am not alone

His spirit makes me wonder
of the reason for his loss
Then it takes me to
Jesus on the cross

Jesus suffered as my son
but bravely stood up tall
wanting peace for everyone
and sacrificed his all

This is where my son proudly wished to be

My heart is breaking with the knowledge of yet another fine young man who has lost his life in sacrifice for our nation. May you find some comfort in the gratitude of our nation and this group of Patriot Guard members will never forget him and his heroism.
