Stg3 Demetrius McKinney
A great man once said, "Poor is the Nation that has no Heroes, Shameful is the one that, having them, Forgets". We will never forget the duty, service, honor, faithfulness and sacrifice you have given to our nation. You are now in the great cloud of witnesses cheering us on. We will not falter, We will not fail, We will not weaken.
To the family of Stg3 Demetrius Mckinney
I pray that our heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost ...(Lincoln to Mrs. Bixby 21 Nov 1864). We will continually be praying for your family at our church. May God strengthen you.

My thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt condolences go to all who love Stg3 Demetrius McKinney. I pray that God will comfort them in the way that only He can.
Rest easy Demetrius, your mission is complete. Job well done.
The members of this organization make me proud to be a part of it on a regular basis. You have done it once again with your response to this last minute request to honor one of our veterans. Work commitments will prevent me from being there tomorrow. If you're riding solo, please leave your pegs down for all of us that will be with you in spirit. Ride safe! |

Today we said good-bye to Demetrius McKinney. By we I mean his family, which includes a son Robert, his mother Allyson, a father Prince, 5 brothers, 4 sisters, and a large number of nieces and nephews. I do not know his friends, his personal friends, but I saw them today. They attended his service, carried his casket, and I know that more then a few shed a tear because of his untimely passing. He had other friends there to honor his memory as well. Friends he never met, and who never met him, but friends none the less. Like many of these new friends, Demetrius had answered the call when his country called him. He served her as a member of the United States Navy during the Gulf War, and he served her honorably. Not all of his new friends have done this, but those who haven't, support those who do, and in that way they too serve, just as surely as anyone of us who has worn the uniform of the United States military.
Today 26 members of the Patriot Guard Riders and their friends, came to say good bye to their friend, Stg3 Demetrius McKinney, an honorably discharged Naval veteran, who during his life time showed that not only did he know what needed to be done, he did it. Thank you sir for your service to your country, my country, our country. And although he never met the 26 men and women who came to honor him and his family today, I like to think that maybe like all the other family and friends who came to say good-bye to this fine man, in some way he knows that we were there also, and that it made him smile.
Nothing that happened today, nor anything posted regarding the passing of this 41 year old father, son, brother, and uncle can ease the hole that his passing has caused. Only God and time can do that. But I do hope that the family understands that the life of Demetrius McKinney will not be forgotten by the Patriot Guard Riders. You have our deepest sympathy as you experience the grief that can not be avoided. And please understand that Patriot Guard Riders deeply appreciate's being allowed to share in your sorrow. We are in your debt.
To Demetrius' son Robert. Nothing can ease losing your father, but please know this. In answering his country's call, your father is a hero. Hero's do not just wear capes or have rows of medals on their chests. Most hero's look and act just like everybody else. They simply follow their heart, and do not shirk their responsibility, even when to do so would be so much easier. They do what must be done, often not knowing what sacrifice they will suffer, but being willing to suffer whatever sacrifice is necessary. No greater love has a man, then he would lay down his life for his brother. You're father was willing to do that. Never forget that.
And finally, to that gentleman, who's name I do not know, who as the family was leaving the chapel at the National Cemetery at Bushnell, turned, faced our flag line, came to attention, and saluted us. I don't know if it was the wind or what it was, but right then I must have gotten something in my eye, both of them actually, because they started watering just as I returned the salute. It must have been a stiff breeze, because I saw other members having the same problem. Thank you sir, thank you very much. May God ease this family's pain as you go forward from this day. |

| Ranger ,Thank you for that great report . As you were saying about the stiff breeze ,kicking - up ,while returning a salute , that made your eyes watered ., as reading that , that same breeze had caught my eyes too ,. I could really see and feel that sight . Thanks for sharing . |

I only read about the mission this morning (Friday) while I was in St. Pete (from Atlanta) for a conference. Though I was in my truck, I left as soon as I could in an attempt to link up. While I was unable to make the funeral, I did happen to catch up with the tail end of the procession on I-75 en route to the Nat'l Cemetary.
Monitoring radio chatter on the Interstate, many truckers and other drivers were initially irate about the traffic delay. Some thought it was a procession for a policeman, while others thought it was for a regular civilian. I got on the radio and advised them it was for a deceased veteran. The complaints ceased almost immediately. I heard several comments to the effect of, "Well, we can certainly wait for him" and "We aren't in that much of a rush after what he's given up" and other such kind words. In fact, a few snotty drivers were verbally slapped down after making "so what?" types of remarks.

To all my Patriot Guard family, my words to you will not sufficiently express my thanks for what you have done for my friend’s family today. It is true, "There is no telling what can be done when nobody cares who gets the credit". Thank you Ranger and all who attended this honor mission. I know many of you changed your day to do this. Thank you!
Bob thank you for defending our country when you served and now on the road. Patriotism hasn’t vanished, there just has to be a few Patriots that stand up and say, "Enough is enough"! Thank you Florida we are proud of your fight this summer!
Demetrius had attended a service and then called and asked if he could use our computer and internet at the church. I had quite a talk with him that day. He talked so much about his career in the Navy. He really loved his job and must have been good at it.
To Robert and the family of Demetrius McKinney, there is no way to fill that area of your heart that Demetrius filled. May the memories of your American Patriot Sailor always remind you of his service to our great nation. Anyone who has stood alongside of one of our soldiers is a hero in my book. Thank you for serving our country! You will continually be in our prayers.

To Petty Officer McKinney it was an Honor to be able to help your family and friends give you the send off you desrve
To the family and friends of Demetrius, You should all be very Proud of your Brother the man in charge. You Sir are a true Gentleman, Thank you.
To all the PGR who read this, we had a a couple first timers today. A 41 year old active duty female Navy Yoeman on her way to Iraq. She has 3 sons all on active duty and I think 1 in Kuwait and 1 in Iraq. An active duty Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer. Its a great felling to know we have people such as these still out there.

The family member who walked the line and shook all of your hands is my friend and fellow church member, Tim. I want you to know he called me last night and thanked everyone of you for what you did. Thank you again! I always wanted a big family I just didn't know it was this big. WOW!
The first timers thank you and welcome aboard!!! Thank you for serving our great nation. I want both of you to know we open every service in our church with 15 minutes of prayer for everyone, including the families, in active duty. We also pray for the missing and wounded. Thank you for protecting our freedom. I am a grateful American.
