The scheduled itinerary I received has this reaching Missouri on Saturday the 26th or Sunday the 27th. Mike or Chris, I would plan on making the transfer at the St Louis Arch. Missouri Highway Patrol will escort us.  Rojas and I have discussed the timing and secured storage if needed.

PA leg from Shanksville, PA to Wheeling, WV update.

As of this time, we're expecting the PGR to arrive from Washington, DC in Shanksville between 3 and 4 p.m. after accounting for their fuel stop, some traffic, etc.  I'll be in touch with SuzieQ via cell phone while they're on their way (she'll be 4-wheelin' it with the memorial stone).  So please plan on arriving at 3:00.  Come later if need be, and hopefully we won't miss anyone, but it's worth the trip anyway ... trust me.  Also, you just never know, we could set out a good bit later than we're planning ... so we're planning to be FLEXIBLE.

At Shanksville, PA, we'll have the blessing at some point, transfer the stone to another  vehicle for the trip to Wheeling, WV, and then proceed across Rte. 70.

I'll be in touch with ron1ok tonight, hopefully, and we'll see about an ETA in Wheeling.

Tomorrow or Saturday, I'm going down to Shanksville and see what I can see.  Most likely rendezvous point would be the memorial at the crash site.  Anyone planning on coming, please go to their web site & check out the directions and rules   http://www.flight93memorialproject.org/memorial.asp    This page has good driving directions at the top, and the visitation rules underneath the directions under "Visiting The Temporary Memorial"

Another PGR was on the phone with the Memorial Site director when I called down there earlier, so somebody's already working with them on something or another.

These are the preliminary plans.  Will post again as things firm up and/or change.

Ride on.     Joe

I've been in contact with Joe, and we've got a tentative schedule set up as far as the PA/WV transfer is concerned.  Still waiting to hear from Ohio, but I'll keep a wide eye on this and the other forums.  I'm glad to be able to help out, and will keep you posted.

Ohio has a transport ready willing able and proud to serve.  Butch "jif48" Belville from Marysville Ohio, a most trusted and faithful cager PGR member, active as all get out, and is honored to be the custodian of this National Treasure.

Butch has been given contact information for Ron J and will receive the stone on Wednesday morning at a point to be determined by him and Ron J.  Butch is also aware of contact phone number for Rojas for connection on the other end.

Butch will coordinate with pick up and next delivery.    He lives in Marysville, just a bit north east of Columbus, so I would expect him to pick up in the morning on Wednesday and return home, possibly delivering on Thursday morning with an overnight stay at home.  Butch will determine this this though, I am just making an observation.

Butch is well aware of the importance and symbolism of this, and is proud as all get out to be a part of this.  He is a Viet Nam Veteran, that has found family and comfort among the PGR.  Butch attends all missions in Ohio, and carries about 24 poled flags for us.  Basically, it is pretty much a given fact that he will be there.

He will perform this task flawlessly to get the stone through Ohio with great care and pride.  Butch is the first one asked, and accepted this Special Mission quicker than I could get out all the information.

Good morning kids,
I have the honor of heading up the portion of the transport through the great state of Indiana.   I know this is pretty fluid right now because of the number of states involved, but would like to begin dialogue with the Ohio Ride Captain ASAP so we can begin to coordinate the handoff.
Does anyone know if any protocal has been set up for the transfers as of yet?

ALRTater,
I'm the RC for the Indiana leg.  Butch sound like a good man (of course, all us VN vets are).  We MAY have a Congressman involved for a brief stop-over in Indianapolis so  A morning pick up at the Ohio/Indiana state line would work great for us.
I know things are very fluid right now but the sooner we can nail down some plans, the sooner the states west of us can set up.  Ideally, if we can pick up the stone in the morning, we can hand it over to Illinois mid-afternoon.
Thinking the big truckstop at the stateline, I-70 & 40 would be a good spot for the transfer.
Looking forward to working with Butch.

After talking with Chris for IL, my understanding is that we should expect hand off to Missouri to be at the Gateway Arch in STL on Friday morning, 25 AUG.  Any members from Missouri that are planning to ride, please contact me at whr2nd@patriotguard.org or post your name here so I can get coordination for a plan.

We will coordinate with the Missouri State Captain on the date & time, I have a large number of folks that want to ride the final leg. We will try to make it on a day that will allow the greater number to do that. Watch the thread for dates and times, some of you are e-mailing me, and to those I will also reply on the e-mails. Stand by and be ready to ride. Hey Kansan's be sure you thank the folks across the country that are taking time from their busy schedules, family and jobs to help us out. One day the shoe will be on the other foot, and we will be there.

Shanksville, PA to Wheeling, WV leg of the journey, update:

Scouting done.  1st stop Flight 93 Temporary Memorial in Shanksville.  4 years since I’ve been there.  I forgot what a powerful, moving experience it is.  Some of our fellow citizens got the chance to fight and THEY DID, and THEY WON, and they probably saved the White House … and it ended there.  Need to order up a new PGR lapel pin … mine’s now part of the Temporary Memorial … stuck in a wooden beam a little below the American Legion Riders jacket.

SuzieQ:  as you approach from the east, you’ll see a Sun Martz store / gas station on your left … 1 more mile is a traffic light where one lane is closed for resurfacing … 2 miles past light is Castagna’s bar/rest on left (opens at 3:00) where you might want to stop, use restroom, get a soda, whatever (great marinara sauce for the breaded cheese sticks & delicious beer) … no food or drinks available at the Memorial and only porta-johns ….  2 miles west of Castagna’s, you should turn left onto Lambertsville Rd. … clearly marked with blue “Flight 93 Memorial” sign + an airplane sign … before you get there, you will pass Buckstown Rd. which is preceded by a “Shanksville 5 miles” sign … don’t go down there, you can, but it’s a rougher road into the memorial.  1.7 miles down Lambertsville Rd. & you’ll go left on Skyline Road, go .8 mile, and it's on your right, can’t miss it.

Joan & other PGR meeting at Shanksville:  To avoid Turnpike we’re going Rte. 30 W to Ligonier, Rte. 711 S to Rte. 31 W, and then Rte. 70 west.  Y’all are gonna luvvvvv this ride!  Except for going through Mt. Pleasant, it's beautiful country roads … and Mt. Pleasant’s nice, too, but there’s lights.  Then Rte. 70 to the first westbound rest area after Washington, PA to call Ron & give our ETA.  Final stop is first rest area in WV where Ron & company will take over.

We’re still figuring on meeting SuzieQ & Co. between 3 & 4 at Shanksville.  She and I will be in touch via cell phone … it could be earlier or later.

We have a car with a large trunk so far.  Any of our 4-wheeler PGR with a pickup plan on coming?  If so, please let me know.

Ride on.         Joe

P.S. – Ryan … tried sending you photos via cell phone.  Did they arrive?

Joe.

I have a great sense of direction (I couldn't get lost if I wanted to...) but that sounds confusing as to the fact when I looked it up on Mapquest, I didn't see 711W (it must not be a very long stretch)...so I'm guessing you'll be leading the pack to at least I-70 ...

I'll be arriving at 2:30 but could be sooner as I have a lead foot  Just keep an eye out for the red Chevy w/a PGR flag.

Really looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the PA PGR!

Joan,

I, on the other hand, get lost regularly ... which is why I scout things! Rte. 711 runs N & S. We'll pick it up in Ligonier where it intersects Rte. 30 and head south to Rte. 31 W. Now that I've done it all the way to Rte. 70, I know I can do it again. So ... worry not. Rte. 70 to Wheeling has no turns, & I have yet to get lost in a rest area :)

See ya! Joe

Sean, I looked back over my post, thinking I must be suffering fron CRS cause I have no idea where 12:30 or 1 oclock came from.  I am hoping to be able to be there mid-afternoon.  At this point, timing is riding on Butch over in Ohio.  Plus I may have a stop over in Indianapolis, not sure how that will work out just yet.
The Ohio/IN hand-over will probably post in this forum so watch for it.  Either way I'll give you an prelim idea as soon as I know.

I'm waiting to hear from W. Va. Since I am picking up from Ron
in W Va Wednesday and staying home that night I'll be ready to roll
anytime Thursday morning. Let's go ahead and pick a meeting time and
place for Oh / In transfer. Others can then start making their arrangments.

From home I'll be appx 2-1/4 hrs. to the state line. I can leave anytime.
Whatever is best for you with your possible stop in Indy is fine with me.

19 Aug 2006 8:25 AM Alert
I am signed up with the WV (or as the old timers call it, WVA) group as I live in Harpers Ferry - note to self, sign up with VA and MD since that's only 5 minutes away - but, can make the first leg; pickup to Shanksville.

Reading through the entire thread, It looks like the pickup will be Tuesday, 22 Aug 2006 at 1000. I just took off Wed-Fri of last week from work to participate in the America's 911 ride (oddly enough, the Shanksville portion) so I'll have to wait until I get back in the office Monday to confirm but, it looks promosing given I work for an agency in the DoD and all my supervisors are very supportive of this type of effort.

The only thing I'm trying to figure out is where the first "night" will be. Shanksville? Don't think so from what I've read. Given where I'm coming from, I will not make the trip up and back in one day so I need to secure a room for the night.

I'm sure most of the older members know but, for the sake of us new guys, why could we not have a police escort for this rather than dealing with the traffic and such?

Anyway, I hope things fall into place and I can participate in this.

Wheeling to Ohio transfer:

Staging is at the rest area just inside the WV state line coming from PA,on I-70, on Wednesday, at 08:30.  Westbounders, as soon as you cross the PA/WV line, it is the very first rest stop.  Eastbounders, you may have to go to the West Alexander exit in PA, just up the road away, turn around and come back to the rest area.  We have a few guests that want to do a little ceremony first, then we can go kickstand up at around 09:00 for about a 1 hour ride to the old Shenandoah truck stop (now closed), exit 186 in Ohio for the transfer to the Ohio contingent.  We should be there around 10:00.  Don't know if they have anything planned, so we'll see when we get there.  Have confirmed meeting time and place with Ohio, so we're eady to "rock" and roll.  Bring your cameras!

                                                                                                       Ride safe,
