Carl was a friend of ours, the man is a legend, he never judged anyone and was even better than the movie showed. Everyone was a friend, and he looked after the "young" sailors. The Navy is a much better unit because of him and his family. May his spirit watch over us at-sea, we will always remember him and stand-by to assist his family.

| I keep thinking back to the movie, and the inscription on the homemade radio. ASNF. In that same regard, the grateful patriots in this country will never forget the sacrifice, perseverance, and dedication to serving this country that the Master Chief gave. So to modify the inscription a little, WWNF. We will never forget. |

| I cannot begin to put into words the depth and breadth of my sorrow at the loss of Master Chief Carl Brashear. There was no one who inspired me more than he, before and during my service in the U. S. Navy, and still, to this very day, MCPO Brashear remains the greatest of my personal heroes and THE example of what one person can achieve for himself and for his Country. Although I will mourn MCPO Brashear's passing, I will also rejoice in what I - and untold numbers of others - have been so fortunate to have learned from his life. I sincerely and humbly hope that MCPO Brashear's family will consider allowing the Patriot Guard Riders to render Honors at MCPO Brashear's memorial service, and to allow those of us who knew him, and those of us who wish that we had known him, to be in his presence one last time. Rest in peace, Master Chief - we have the watch; fair winds and following seas on your journey to meet The Maker. |

Growing up as a Navy Brat and later a Boiler man in the Destroyer Fleet (for 4 years in the Mid 60's) knowing the story of Master Chief Brashear service was an inspiration.
The stories of the Sea from old sailors can be a lesson in itself, but to hear of sailors that have gone past the pain and sweat to reach the honor that the Master Chief reached should never be forgotten. I have finally realized what my father told me about the "wooden ships with iron men" was real. I am proud to have been in the presents of greatness even if was just to have served under the same blue ski and sailed in the same sacred waters of the seven seas with such a man.
While I look at the picture of the Master Chief, be advised those gold strips mean that he not only served his country with longevity, he did it as a sailor of good conduct and showed the others that he was role model. Not all chiefs wear the gold. That, in itself was a monumental task. To be able to accomplish all he did with the times the way they were also is something that should never be forgotten nor allowed to happen again.
Because of your sacrifice Master Chief there are “8 bells and all is well’, rest now we have the Con and you have earned your liberty. You will forever be in this old sailor’s heart and I will tell your story to my children and my children’s children. Hear the Boatswain’s mate piping you aboard heavens ship. I look forward to being in your presents again, until then rest in peace.
Forever your shipmate
