Thank you for all your support. Ryan is my nephew and more important, my godson. I would very much appreciate as many of you fine Americans being there as I continue to hear about anit-war protesters that show up at these events, and I believe that we need your support to drown out all these sob's. They have forgotten what our troops have done to insure their freedom and we need to insure that Ryan's mother and father are able to bury their son and my godson in peace. Thank you for all you do.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 599-06
June 25, 2006

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Cpl Ryan J. Buckley, 21, of Nokomis, Ill., died in Baghdad, Iraq on June 23 of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations.  Buckley was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Media with questions about these Soldiers can call the 101st Airborne Division Public Affairs Office at (270) 798-9966.

He died where manhood’s morning almost touches noon, and while the shadows still were falling toward the west.  He had not passed on life’s highway the stone that marks the highest point, but, being weary for a moment, lay down by the wayside, and, using his burden for a pillow, fell into that dreamless sleep that kisses down his eyelids still. While yet in love with life, he passed to silence.  He was the friend of all heroic souls.  He was a worshiper of liberty, a friend of the oppressed.  He added to the sum of human joy; and were every one to whom he did some loving service to bring a blossom to his grave, he would sleep tonight beneath a wilderness of flowers.  Robert Green Ingersoll
