MISSION COMPLETE:
Eighteen American Heroes, Dixon, CA, 08 July 09

Post Mission Brief

Around 130 -140 patriots showed up at the staging area and rode together to the Cemetery to pay respects to our passing veterans without immediate families. We had several cages and around 100 bikes, give or take a few.

When we arrived at the cemetery another funeral service was running late and still in progress. I'm not sure what the families attending that service thought when 100 bikes rolled up, but I'm pretty sure they all appreciated the flag line that we formed for them when their service was over. Several family members thanked us as they left.

One more Veteran, Edward Cannata SFC USA Korea/Vietnam was added to our memorial service. A bell was rung as each name was read out loud. Our 19 heroes were then given full military honors, the volley of three fired, taps played, and then the flag folding ritual. Someone played the bag-pipes while the flag folding was taking place. Sorry I don't know who he is but I think he rides with us. Well done Sir, thank you.

I don't know how many "first mission" riders were there, because, well, I failed to ask, sorry. Welcome to the PGR. If you made it home safely then consider your first mission, accomplished successfully. Hopefully everyone made it home safely. Thanks for coming and I hope to see you on future missions.

This report completes (i think) my first mission as ride captain. I made several mistakes that I've learned from. You all stood so tall and proud and did the right things, you more then made up for my inexperience. Thanks to everyone that attended, for caring enough to be there!

Any suggestion to make these memorial services for our passing veterans (without immediate families) any better or even more dignified let me know. I invite your comments and suggestions. Because I failed to ask for a prayer offering at the pre-briefing, I offer this post-brief prayer;

Lord Almighty, please accept our brothers into your loving arms and Glorious Kingdom, Amen.
