Thank you, PFC Matthew W. Wilson for your service to this Nation. Individuals like you put your life on the line and sacrifice your lives for our freedoms. And it breaks my heart. I pray each day that the Lord our God will provide each and every one of our soldiers an Angel to watch over and protect them. It is the soldier that gives us freedom, not the politicians. Only two people ever died for our freedoms. One was Jesus Christ and the other was the American Soldier. The least I can do is pay homage and respect to this Hero and his family.
To the family of this American Hero: We as a nation grieve with you in your loss. His adherence to “Duty to God and Country” will not be forgotten. Death is a time to rejoice in the life someone had and the lives they touched on this earth. Life is but a blink of an eye. May the Great Architect take this Hero and his family into his council, protect and heal them.

You don't have to love war, but you do have to love the Warrior!

Trish, I am very sorry for the loss of your nephew. Know you, Ashlynn, Gunnar, Thomas and all your family are in my thoughts and prayers. He is not only a hero to Gunnar but to us all and will never be forgotten.

My sympathies to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) who were his brothers in ensuring our freedoms and sustained a huge loss that day.

There are no words or platitudes that can temper your pain. I can’t think of anything in life that could be more painful, then the loss of a loved one, especially a son.

I would, however, like to take a moment to remind you that as deep as the hole in your heart feels at this time, it will be filled over time with the wonderful times spent together.

You wrote the most beautiful story about Matt. You captured him perfectly. He was loved by so many people. His was the ultimate sacrifice. Matthew will never be forgotten and his son Gunnar will get to know him through stories like yours and the many condolences his family has received. I am heartened by so much love and respect being shown to all fallen soldiers. May God Bless all their families. We lost four heroes that day; Matthew, PFC Matthew D. Ogden, Staff Sgt. Jeffrey A. Hall and Sgt. Jasper K. Obakrairur, (Sgt OB). Their military family, 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, still deplolyed in Afghanistan, suffer as well and we send our condolences to them. God Bless them for carrying on the fight so the fallen soldiers deaths are not in vain. We will continue to pray that God watch over you and you come home safely.

My name is Clorissa Baldwin, I am PFC Matthew Wilson's mother in law. I can truly say that our world will never be the same. I just truly don't know what to say. So I will try and speak from my heart. On June 1st the bottom dropped out of our world. We will never be the same. I will never forget the car doors slamming as the Soldier's came to the door. I will never forget the knock on the door...the words they had to tell my daughter as she came to the door..."It is with our deepest regret..." the look on my daughter's face, the rug being pulled out from underneath us all. It is a feeling I never want to feel again. Matt paid the ultimate price along with his Brother's In Arms...SSGT. Hall, SGT. OB, & PFC Ogden. Others were injured as well that day, and like Matt, they paid the ultimate price...with their lives in one way or another. Matt left behind a wife, Ashlynn & a son, Matthew Gunnar as well, as brothers and a sister, extended family and friends. We will miss him for the rest of our lives...but we will make sure that he is never forgotten and that his 6 month old son, Matthew Gunnar knows his Dad and how he served with Pride in the United States Army. How he gave his life protecting you and I so that we can sleep in peace here at home. The saying that while all gave some, but some gave all has never been truer or hit home harder. We love and will miss you Matt...rest easy in the arms of God...your watch is over...we'll see you on the other side. God, take our son in your Arms and give him rest...help us to know that he will now carry on his duties to watch after his wife, son & family from your Arms...Love, Clorissa M. Baldwin...
