Our thoughts and prayers have been with this family for the last few years and will continue to be in the coming months. We are forever indebted to this brave soldier, SSG Maupin, for his service and sacrifice on our behalf. Matt, your return is long overdue and we will be comforted to know you are back home. We will be honored to stand for Matt .

What Heroes Gave

Each donned their uniform to be
Defenders of our liberty

Their mission sure, their spirits bright
Guard freedom’s home, be brave to fight

One final day each faced their call
Each gave their best enduring all

We’ll never know what they went through
But know they loved this country true

Deep down inside we should all feel
What heroes gave, their cost so real

We must stay thankful, grateful of
The gift of freedom through their love

Their loved ones bore the gravest pain
What we can’t know, some now sustain

To God I pray their pain will cease
And each will find long-lasting peace

Remember this from year to year
What heroes gave – shan’t disappear

We’ll never let their special day
Their time for honor slip away

These brave fought for a nation free
If not for them, where would we be?

I'll be there and try to bring some people with me.

Ezekiel 25:17: The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the Valley of Darkness; for he is truly his brother's keeper, and the finder of lost children.

Whatever I do will be insignificant, but it is very important that I do it. (Gandhi)

I've always felt a connection with SSG Maupin because I was born and raised in Batavia, Ohio and graduated from Glen Este High School (a decade before Matt).  He and his family have been in my prayers for the past four years and will continue to be.  I'm proud that my hometown and my alma mater can claim such a hero.

I would love to come home to Cincinnati for the funeral, but I'll be only four days away from having a baby.  I will be there in spirit and in prayer.  May God grant the Maupin family every comfort and peace and let perpetual light shine upon Matt.  May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

My family and I send our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of this true American Hero. Please know that you are not alone in this terrible time, our hearts and prayers go out to you as you walk this most difficult path...

We too lost our hero in this war against terrorism and know what this terrible outcome feels like. Our path was much shorter and I cannot imagine what you have gone through to finally reach this point. Matt has become your very special strong guardian angel and he knows how much you love him and have fought for him and his fellow commrades. I can picture him greeting our Johnny and all their fallen brothers and sisters in arms up in heaven, and this gives me great comfort that a hero such as Matt was there to welcome our loved one.

We now know that the love and memories we have of our dear loved ones will remain in our hearts forever and we will never forget their courageous sacrifice. The legacy of honor that they have given us will be taught for generations to come, and I promise my children will be taught the meaning of their brave sacrifice. We will never forget!

SSG Keith Matthew Maupin, our world is a better place because of brave and selfless warriors like you. We thank you for making this world a safer one for ALL our children, rest in peace...

It's a very sad time for us here in the tri-state area and around OUR
great nation after hearing the news about Sgt. Matt Maupin. We all
had hoped and prayed for the best but now we know we'll be
paying tribute to a TRUE AMERICAN HERO. My thoughts and prayers
are with the Maupin Family and I ask God to continue to give them
the strength to carry on as they continue their efforts to SUPPORT
OUR TROOPS. We'll never forget Matt and what he has meant to
all of us. I had the honor of standing on stage with " Aunt Charlotte "
in Rising Sun, Indiana this past Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the dedication
of our Veterans Tribute Tower. She told the crowd how much they
appreciated everyone for supporting their family and asked for our
continued support. I gave her a big hug and told her that Rising Sun
was standing with the family during this difficult time and that we'll
continue to SUPPORT THE TROOPS !! Medal of Honor recipient, Sgt.
Sammy Davis was in Rising Sun for the dedication and we had a nice
chat about Matt Maupin and what he stood for. Sammy was very
touched by the support being shown for Matt. I know people will
turn out and pay their last respects to Matt and support his friends
and family. We'll have those AMERICAN FLAGS flying and the world
will know that the USA stands behind its VETERANS & HEROES !!
I know Matt is in heaven and he'll now continue his duty of looking
over OUR TROOPS. It's young men like him who are willing to go and
serve OUR nation and to try and make this a better world who are
the true backbone of the USA. He has accomplished so much in his
short life and has had an impact on so many. May he rest in eternal peace !!

Staff Sgt. Keith Matthew Maupin, R.I.P.

In April, of Two thousand-four
Ambushed, just outside, Baghdad
Private First Class when he was captured
The beginning of a War story, so sad.

The years of hope have ended
With, confirmed, remains found
The ending, not what we wanted
Another haunting, of “Taps”, sound.

The Family Proud, amidst the pain
Closure, of having him come home
Another Gold Star Family added
He joins his Brothers, where they roam.

One more, of many stories told
Since we have been going to War
And there's countless, POWs, MIAs
We fear lost, forevermore.

Some, will return to loved ones
As we still search, for those still lost
For all of those still Missing
In that Action, War can cost.

But, “Leave no one behind!”
MUST BE, our Country's way
Until we find each and every one
And welcome them, back home, one day.

I had mixed feelings when I heard that Matt had been found. I have rode in the vigil rides here in Peoria, IL from the beginning. We are riding tomorrow for Matt, I would not miss the chance to honor him. I have kept a dog tag on my vest all these years with his name and date of capture. At the bottom it says "NEVER FORGET". I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT MATT AND HIS GREAT FAMILY HAS BEEN THROUGH. The tag will be wrapped with a black ribbon and I will continue to wear it on the rest of my missions.

God Bless You.

It will be a Honor to stand for Matt.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine that would attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot reframe from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our heavenly father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid down so costly a sacrifice upon the alter of freedom.
Yours very sincerely and respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln
