19 Mar 2006 3:10 PM Alert

The day started out as 70 bikers on 63 bikes met in an open K-Mart parking lot. These weren’t your typical bikes. The majority of them decorated with American Flags of all sizes. All of them ridden by true Americans showing honor and respect to a fallen hero and his family.

The ride consisted of a nine mile uneventful and un-escorted leg from the parking lot to the funeral home. We had roughly a ½ hour wait for our escort of GySgt Fry to begin. The escort to the Protestant Chapel aboard Camp Lejuene, Jacksonville, North Carolina went exactly as planned with the escort of Jacksonville Police Department being handed off to the Military Police at the main gate with out dropping speed at all. We continued to the Chapel, paid our respects as GySgt Fry received full military honors and then we escorted GySgt Fry off base.

Today I saw the very, very best of America. I saw love, compassion, a sense of community and belonging that was almost overwhelming. I saw a people come together and give their thanks and appreciation for the sacrifice of one of their own.

Today, I stood among true patriots.  Today I saw how proud Americans truly are. It was truly an honor to serve as your ride captain.

To the Texas Patriot Guard; we proudly pass the remainder of the mission to you so you can take GySgt Fry to his final resting spot. You have big shoes to fill but we are confident that the Texas Patriot Guard will have no problem filling them

Jared - my Brother,
Ya'll did a magnificent job.  I'm proud to say that I rode with you, Rolling Thunder NC-5, the Jacksonville Light Keepers and for six great years was a part of the Camp Lejeune family.  Thank you, and all those who participated in the memorial service at Camp Lejeune.  Rest easy knowing that Texas, and all our surrounding states who ride with us, will take Gunny Fry to his final duty station with the same honor and dignity he served with.  God bless him, his family and the Corps.

I am trying to come up with ways to make this one around work. I'm planning on having my boss look at the website tomorrow to help persuade him to allow me to work 4 hrs on Thurs & then head down to Waco. I will let you know by Wednesday but it looks like I'll have to meet you either at the staging area or at the church.

Well just got back from seeing the kids and wife (El Paso), wished I could have been there Friday, but unlike my job it sounds like the mission was completed with outstanding results.

Plan to make the mission Thursday, of course work may play a roll in that, but as it stands today I will be there. If ride is out of shop I will be on two wheels, if not, I will be on 4 (especially seem as how it is a 4x4, hehehe, ok so it was not that funny)

You all ride tall, ride proud, and ride safe.

jwait,
I have no doubt that the Texas group of the Patriot Guard will do you (and the rest of the Nation) proud in taking the helm and completing the mission that your North Carolina group is entrusting us with. I have seen this group in action, as this will be my 3rd mission. The sad part is that on the day we complete this mission for GySgt Fry, it will be exactly 2 weeks to the day that I did my first mission for Pfc Tina Priest in Smithville, Texas.  These soldiers have paid the ultimate price for our freedoms.  How could anyone "NOT" do their  best for them in return.  Thank you to the Patriot Guards who participated in the first  part of this mission. Your Love, Honor, And Respect will be continued as we complete the mission. You can rest assured.

19 Mar 2006 7:50 PM Alert

This message is being posted in the Fry Mission thread and through the Northwest Central Texas email list.  After coordination with RC Bill "Starz" Watkins and the listed contact persons, here is your...

TENTATIVE Timetable and Meet Point
for the western portions of North Central Texas

Starz will lock in the times sometime on TUE, 21 MAR.  Look for another post/email that night or the next morning.

Near North Fort Worth:
Contact - Bill Broadwell (Wild Bill) 817-905-7448

0700 - Meet at parking lot of Joe's Crabshack, southwest corner of I-35W access road (take Exit 58) and Western Center Blvd.  You'll also see a Starbucks and a Whattaburger.  Fuel is available on the east side of the freeway.

0715 - Depart for south Fort Worth meet (Wild Bill recommends taking Loop 820 around the west side of FW to avoid morning traffic).

Near West Fort Worth:
Ride Captain - Mike Lousha (Firewolf) 817-629-9022 (after 1600 please)

0600 - Breakfast at the Petro Truck Stop at I-20 and Sante Fe (Exit 409) in Weatherford.  All are welcome if you so desire.

0730 - Depart Petro for the south Fort Worth meet.

Near South Fort Worth:
Ride Captain - Mike Lousha (Firewolf) 817-629-9022 (after 1600 please)

0815 - Meet at Citgo station at I-35W and Altamesa Boulevard (Exit 44).

0830 - Departing Citgo station for Hillsboro meet.

Hillsboro:

0915-0930 - All the Fort Worth riders will meet the Dallas riders (who'll be coming down I-35E) at McDonalds in Hillsboro.  This will be I-35 at SH-22/SH-171 (Exit 368a) across from Loves Truck Stop.

All North Texas:
Ride Captain for this leg - Bill Watkins (Starz) 972-937-9722

0945 - The combined group will depart Hillsboro for the Waco staging area.

ALL PGR:
Ride Captains - Big R & Streaker

1100-1200 - Staging Site will be the Shell Station next to the entrance to the Macgregor Executive Airport, US-84 west of Waco.
[FWIW, using Google Earth and Garmin GPS software, I would place the eastern entrance to the Shell Station at approximately 31°28'41"N, 097°18'35"W]

Again, this information is TENTATIVE but the final stuff should be pretty close to this.  Once Starz finalizes everything, I'll post/email a FINAL Timetable.

Round Rock Texas

19 Mar 2006 8:22 PM Alert
Central Texas Itinerary!

News you can use, my friends!

The Central Texas Rally point will be the IHOP (2002 IH 35, Round Rock) on the West (Southbound) side of Interstate 35 between Old Settlers Rd and Hwy 79 (exit 254). I think this location will give us the most room to assemble what I hope will be a record-breaking gathering of Central Texas PGR members. I'll be contacting management tomorrow afternoon to alert them to about 20 riders/cagers that will be showing up for coffee and a bite to eat. Please arrive early enough to top off your tank (there's a gas station next to the IHOP) if you need to and allow plenty of time to eat, mingle, visit and take care of any personal business you might have. As we leave the rally point, we'll go south on the access road to Hwy 79 where there's a turn-around that should keep us from having to deal with traffic lights. I'll be contacting Round Rock PD either Monday or Tuesday to see if they'll work with us and maybe have a traffic unit or two available to help us get on the Interstate.

Weather forecast for Round Rock is a low of 43 degrees in the morning, warming up to about 65 degrees. The Waco area forecast is virtually the same. Winds will be out of the ENE at about 13mph. No rain is forecast, but as I said before, this is Texas and that can change at any time. Please dress accordingly with layers you can remove if it warms up during the day.

We'll have a safety briefing about 0845 and KSU will be NO LATER than 0900hrs. The trip to the Waco area rally point will take about an hour and 35 minutes and I'm planning a fuel stop in the area of the north side of Temple. That exact location will be determined prior to KSU as I contact my member in Temple to recon a good, large location with easy exit/entrance. This fuel stop should take no longer than 15-20 minutes. The full run to the Waco rally point is 84 miles so figure your fuel range accordingly. I know I can run 135 miles on a tank and since our rally point in Round Rock is next to a gas station, we shouldn't have that many that need to take on fuel. The stop in Temple will also allow any riders in the Temple area to join us. We should be arriving in Temple around 0945hrs - 1000hrs.

We'll arrive at the Waco rally point around 1045hrs and meet the other groups as they arrive. I like to arrive early so we can all get set up and meet other riders as they arrive.

I've had at least one PGR member contact me and advise that anyone that doesn't want to ride a bike up to Waco can ride in her cage. If you're inclined to do that, contact me and I'll forward your information to her so ya'll can coordinate.

Central Texas PGR members, we've had about 2 weeks to plan and shuffle schedules to make this Mission the largest in Texas PGR history. I expect we will succeed.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Thank you. Ride safe, ride smart, ride Tall and Proud.

Change to the Houston Itinerary for Gunnery Sgt. John D. Fry services this Thursday the 23rd:

I went to Waco late yesterday to take "she who has the scholarship" back to school and made a change to the break schedule, see below

Houston Staging area: Whataburger HWY 290 & Spring Cypress (Next to the Home Depot)
Time: 7:15AM KSU at 7:45AM sharp

Hwy 290 to HWY 6 to Waco
Distance 160 miles estimated travel time with two travel breaks 3 hours

We will make two breaks, the first will be at 50 miles just before College Station. There is a Exxon & MacDs where we will make a quick fill up and take a 10 minute break.

We will NOT stop in Hearne as all the gas stations are smaller ones, there is a Exxon at the 102 mile mark just past Calvert that is huge and we will have pleanty of room for our bikes. This will be an extented break for gas, rest rooms and fluids. It is 4 lanes to Hearne, only two lanes from Hearne to Waco and there is construction so we will need to be fresh for this stretch.

Just saw the GMA piece, too. FLY THOSE FLAGS, PEOPLE!!!

Man, if "Uglies" doesn't describe this bunch, I don't know what does. Phred Felps is a P-poor example of what a man of God should be. I've got to keep telling myself, as sad as it might seem to some, that Felps, like me, were created in the image of God. If I didn't know better, I'd think that when God scooped up the clay that Felps was made of, there was some dog poop laying on that particular patch of ground.

The PGR numbers are climbing, now! Welcome aboard, Y'all!

Thanks for that visual, Charlile.  I know that my God is never wrong, but the day he created the Topeka Moron, he was just a little short on being right.

I, too, just saw the ABC piece, and if that didn't motivate you, you better get a chest X-ray to make sure your heart is still there.  Take a look:
