When I read about Matt being identified, many emotions ran through me...first, relief for the family, the wait was over....second, sorrow because he would not be coming home the way they had hoped and prayed for....third, knowing exactly what they would be going through since I lost my youngest son the very next day after Matt disappeared but was lucky, he came home to us within a week....like the Maupin family, it wasn't the way I wanted it to be but he did come home.  I can honestly say that I know what you are having to deal with in most ways...going through the loss over again, 4 years later.  If there is ANYTHING I can possible do, please let me know.  If at all possible, I plan on being at his service maybe with a few others from Georgia.  Stand down Matt, your tour is over....help Justin guard Heaven's gates til we all meet again.  Jan and Joe Johnson

Weapon in my hand, ready to roll
Here we go again- our nightly patrol.
Over here it’s the same thing, night after night
Only difference it seems is whether or not there’s a fight.
Sometimes it is easy-going, calm as can be
It’s times like that which worry me.
Gotta stay alert cause you never know
If there is something ahead that’s gonna blow.
One more time we’ll make our rounds
Always praying to make it back to our “home” grounds.
But if by enemy hands we are taken out tonight
Just know it won’t be easy, it will be one hell of a fight.
Whether we’re Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine
We are the toughest boys you have ever seen.

I want to offer my condolences to you the Maupin family. My heart has been with you for the last 4 years. I can not express my heart felt gratitude for what Matt and your family have meant to me personally. I am so very thankfull that i can wake up each day, and live my life as a free American. I owe this to the men and women, such as Matt, that put them self in a position, so that others can be free. I am so proud to have been able to follow Matts journey and unfortunate return. I am forever thankful for what he has given to me, and to every American. Please except my heart felt blessing on Matts return. I will not be able to attend in person, Matts service. But i will stand in a moment of silence to recognize his rememberence when my brothers and sisters of the PGR do. Thank you Matt! You are a tue AMERICAN HERO!

Our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Maupin family. We joined you and the rest of America, hoping and praying for a different outcome. We were deeply saddened by the news today. Although his return is not the one envisioned and prayed for, Matt will return to you to be laid to rest. We can't possibly comprehend your grief, but mourn your loss. Take comfort in the knowledge that Matt served his country with honor, and he is a Hero. He answered a call to serve that many cannot hear. May your loving memories bring you comfort and strength as you face the difficult days ahead. We will stand the flagline in spirit and take a moment of silence to honor the life and service of your beloved son. America owes your family a debt that can never be repaid.

SSgt. Maupin, thank you for your service and sacrifice for your country. Thank you for stepping up to protect your fellow Americans and preserve the freedoms we enjoy everyday. Let us not take for granted the sacrifice you made for the rest of us. Rest easy now as you take your place of honor alongside those who have gone before you. You are in our hearts forever.

Thank you SSGT Maupin

SSG Maupin, were are so proud of you and always will be. Thank you for your selfless service to our great country and your fellow comrades. I wish you could have come home in better circumstances but no doubt, we will still welcome you home the best we know how. You deserve it. RIP Soldier, we have the watch!

To the Maupin family, our deepest sympathies are with you. There wasn't a day that went by since Matt's disappearance that we didn't think about him. We prayed daily for his safe return but I guess God had different plans for that young man. Another Soldier received his wings and will be sitting next to our great Savior. You will be in our thoughts and prayers for comfort and closure. We will blanket you with love, compassion and peace. Know that we will never forget Matt and his sacrifice.

Condolences from a member of the "Run For The Wall" family. We've kept Matt in our hearts and prayers since the '04 run and altho many of us took his picture and left it at the Wall many others kept a second picture with the yellow ribbon on our bikes ever since. Those pics have become a fixture and oughtta stay there. Mine will. Standing by in Youngstown.
