There is a time for everything, And a season for every activity under heaven:
A time to be born and a time to die, A time to plant and a time to uproot, A time to kill and a time to heal, A time to tear down and a time to build A time to weep and a time to laugh, A time to morn and a time to dance, A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, A time to embrace and a time to refrain, A time to search and a time to give up, A time to keep and a time to throw away, A time to tear and a time to mend, A time to be silent and a time to speak, A time to love and a time to hate, A time to for war and a time for peace.

| It’s been five days now and I still can not put words together to describe my incredible heart felt pain and dismay. We all meet people in our daily lives that we learn to call friend and when they pass on we feel sorrow and go about our normal lives. Then there are the people we meet and learn to call them brother, leader, patriot, and of course very dear friend, these are the people that we can not go about our normal lives when they are no longer with us. This is what Greg was to me. Greg will be in my heart and memories always.
God’s speed my brother.
To the entire Bowman family my deepest and most sincere condolences.
Respectfully,

to Greg his family and friends.
It is evident the many posts Greg was respected by many for his honor of hero's.
It was an honor and a privilege to stand with you to guard our hero's.
I bow my head in your honor and thank you for your courage.
I was humbled by your present as you are a true patriot of freedom.
God bless you nd your family for providing such a patriotic image .
No one will question that Greg had taken the oath:
Never again will grieving parents, families and friends alone bear the toil. Never again will hard-won freedom of speech be used to debase and destroy. Never again will their sacrifice be dishonored upon their home soil. No, Never Again.
A true leader of Patriotism -- We will miss you, but never forget you.
I am only a civilian but allow me to salute you,

It is with great pain that I type that both of us have to work and will not be able to attend.
The only consolation is that there will be many of you paying respects to Greg and his family for us.
Thank you.
Thank you all.

This is truely a sad time for the family, friends, community and PGR brothers and sisters of Greg Bowman. To go through what Greg's family is having to go through is impossible for the rest of us to really understand. My heart goes out to all of you in the imeadiate and extended family. A son, a husband, a father and a brother will never be with you in person to give you his love and attention again. Greg will however live on in your hearts and mind as he will in ours.
I have stood with Greg only 5 or 6 times within the last year, he always introduced himself and thanked everyone for being there. His mind and demeanor was always on the mission and the greaving family. He stands pretty much at the top of the list of dedicated PGR road cpt.s I have met. We will all miss him and hopefully do our best to emulate his attention to detail and faithfullness to the mission. Stand down our Brother your duty has been done, above and beyond the call.
It will truely be my honor to be with you tomorrow.

Reflecting back on my last few months and after reading all these posts I come to the conclussion that I trully missed something. I have various days off work during the two week cycle and I am always looking for places to go ride to. I can see for myself I missed a great opportunity in NOT taking a ride and chatting with what appears to me now with a very GREAT man. To all the Bowman family I wish to give my extremely heartfelt condolences. Greg surley would have been a great man to have met and spent some time with. You had a lifetime to know him and I only hope you can look back upon that and remember all the great times you had together. I am quite sure you'll remember him everyday in so many ways as I do the loved ones I have lost. It brings me sadness and joy to think back upon all the memories I have of both my parents,Yes they left me way to early. But which of us knows what GOD has planned for us,surley not me. Things I wish I could change. But surely I would love to have been smart enough to take that ride to Princeton and just stop in and say hello to Greg. I know now I would have learned a lot from him and we would have become instant friends. I can't change the recent events but I will make a vow now to myself not to let something like this happen ever again.
Please take a moment as I am sure you will for years to come and remember all the people Greg's life has touched and made all the better for having known him.
Another big regret is to having to be here at work today and not with you all, but let you know I wish I was allowed to wear my DARK glasses in here for the tears keep coming, I know this will be an extremely hard ride for many of my brothers and sisters.
For myself I would very much like in the next few months to come and meet all the Bowman's. Maybe in knowing you I'll know Greg also.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL |

I read thru this Thread because I served in Nam with a young Marine of the same name. The more I read, the more impressed I became. While this PGR member is not the same as the young Marine I once knew, he sounds like a human being that I wish I had known. The outpouring of love and respect is a reflection of a man that was an assett to his family, his community and to all who knew him. My deepest condolences to his family and those PGR members who knew him well. We have lost a "Good One".

Four of us from Indiana made the mission with the 1477th this morning. Just before we left Atterbury, we were asked to preform special mission by the CO. After the 1477th was secured at home, we rode on to Princeton to meet the Bowman family as per the request. Not arriving until about 1600 hrs we thought we may be intruding. We were welcomed by the nicest people I have ever met. We were immedeatly treated like old friends. It is no wonder that Greg has all of these great comments about what a great person he was. Mrs Bowman and Gregs brothers were unreal. What an honor to meet such people. My only regret is that I never got to meet Greg. Greg, if you are reading all of this, I just want to say that you have a beautiful family and they are just as proud of you as you were of them. Ride with GOD for eternity, Brother.

Just rereading this and it looks like I meant only 4 In PGR were on this mission. This is what happens when one tries to write when cold and tired.
There were over 15 IN. PGR bikes and at least two cages braving the 40 degree temps on this mission from Camp Atterbury to the IN/IL state Line. Four of us went the distance to Streator. My humble apologies for any misunderstanding. Ray

I know this will sound stupid. But I think this thread will never be complete. This Mission will never be over for Greg. We will continue on. Remembering eatch soldier lost or brought home. With Eatch time we drive past a corn field or hear bikes drive past. We will look and Greg wont ride on in. That smile on his face. We will carry on this mission for Greg. Misssion Report is posted for the Mission RC bogie
*****************************************
Mission Report.
The mission for Greg, our brother and friend, and his family, also part of our family - the most difficult mission to date - unfolded so successfully only because all of the PGR worked together, as SrHOG put it - 'It's what we do'. I hope you all saw, heard and felt the appreciation of the family.
The visitation Fri saw about 40 PGR at most times, with a total of probably 60 participating.
The funeral service Sat was truly awe inspiring - coming around that corner to see all the red, white and blue being held by 150+ people (112 bikes and uncounted number of cages), the police and fire vehicles - I am at a loss for words except two - Wow! Thanks!!
The extra effort to fulfill the request for the four block long stretch of flags was phenomenal.
I am not going to thank any individuals - I certainly would forget many, besides - it truly was the whole of the PGR that made this happen.
I do want to mention the folks who came from IA, IN and WI to support the family. I also want to put out a very special thanks to the WI PGR for covering the dual state mission that started in IL on these same dates. All a true demonstration of 'no borders'.
Finally, to Joann and the rest of the Bowman family - we are forever in your debt for allowing us the honor to show our respect and love for Greg. Greg will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Greg - we love you - rest in peace brother - we have the watch.
Until we ride again ...
Respectfully,
-bogie

As I sit here today trying to concentrate on Safety Documents for 200+ people I find it extremely difficult to concentrate. I keep reflecting back to the events of the past few days. So I am hoping when people come to read the completed statement they read this as well.
As I look back, I see we all lost someone very Great, sure some lost more than others. I don't want to appear to say it would ever be the same for us all. For me I lost the ability to know this GREAT man, Others lost a friend, a brother, a father and a husband and a son. Just the same I am extremely saddend by all our losses. For myself I have made a commitment to NOT allow this to happen again, in not knowinig those that can make a positive change to who I am. I am making a commitment to seek these people out be it at a mission, or a ride or a road trip, but this is something I choose to do for me.
But I also challenge all of us to seek out the other GREAT people we all know already that make such a positive difference in our lives now. You know who they are, the Eric(Nailer) Swanson's, Bear, Mike Bowman's, Joe Bush's. All these folks that give of themselves just like Greg did. Seek these people out and SHAKE their hands, give them a hug, whatever you feel is right but above all else say "THANK YOU". You'll notice in the completed message, you all were thanked for being there yesterday. It is us who should be thanking the Ride Captains, State Captain, Road Captains for without their never ending commitment we would only be a bunch of motorcycle riders. I am not saying others would step up and take charge, but these folks do it everyday. They are the get it done people. Let's get it done now and tell them THANKS.
For JoAnn, the kids, Mike and mom and dad Bowman THANK YOU for allowing GREG to be who he was, without your support he wouldn't have been that BIG MAN.

To Greg, Damn we miss you! I accepted the mission to not be in Princeton, but to stand for Cpl Keith Nurnberg in Richmond under the leadership of DJ Casser, "The Crow", Senior Ride Captain from WI. Each riders briefing included thoughts of Greg. Several times it was questionable whether or not DJ would be able to continue the briefing, the pain and tears in his voice obvious. He wanted so badly to be there in Princeton but knew the mission always comes first, and that he was right where Greg wanted him to be. I talked to several people and we all seemed to have felt Greg's presence. Moments of silence turned to group prayer asking The Father to lead Greg home, and to keep all PGR members safe. I may have been in Richmond, but I stood for Greg. I'd like to close this by passing along a personal observation. I've been sharing various posts with family and friends to try and explain what it is I do, who we are, why I fall off the face of the earth for a few days every now and then to perform a "mission", and just why we do what we do. I've received several comments along the lines of "Bikers must not know how to use spell check", what terrible typing. I simply reply "It's not easy to type when your crying." To all my PGR brothers and sisters, thank you for considering me one of you, for you are the finest examples of human beings I've ever met. The leadership of truly great Patriots like Greg make doing the right thing more clear than I could ever have imagined. Godspeed, Greg. We'll miss you, Big Guy. |

I would like to Thank everyone for doing a great job ensuring Cpl. Nurnberg was suitably honored, under difficult circumstances for the PGR. The PGR came through no matter the circumstance.
The escort was impressive, with about 50 bikes, the best recon I have ever seen [Thanks, Oscar!], and Big Joe stepping up when Jim took ill, [hope you are feeling better, Jim] and from what I have heard an exceptionally well done LEO escort to bring Keith to Spring Grove.
Kevin & company has the flags set up for the visitation, and we have a steady crew of about 40 to 60 for the 5 hour visitation on a cool and windy day. We presented the plaque to Tonya as a group near the end of the visitation.
For the escort to the church, we had 42 bikes, pegs down, plus 4 LEO bikes leading the way. Along the route there were Scouts and townsfolk standing with flags. We were joined at the cemetery by a number of veterans, in uniforms, with unit colors. We formed a circle of comfort around the mourners and the vets.
As we all know, this was a tough week, with the loss of Greg Bowman and the services directly conflicting. LEO, family and friends of Cpl. Nurnberg were aware of it, too. They were amazed at our show of support, knowing we had lost one of our own. When the family is asking for ride decals (which we ran out of) as Henry would say, "ya done good."
When the CAO, SFC Stroub, found out that Greg's funeral was at the same time at Cpl. Nurnberg's, and that other people would be there besides the PGR, she told me Greg was riding on his last mission. I know Greg would have wanted unwelcome visitors at his services, and not Cpl. Nurnberg's. And that is just how it worked out.
I would like to thank everyone for stepping up for this mission. While I am sure I am forgetting someone, Thanks to Jim, Oscar, Big Joe, Russ, Denise, Kevin, Uffda and Oopsie, J&P, Uncle Larry and to all for helping make sure things were done appropriately. And a special THANKS to everyone who stood the line.
Both John Curran and Henry Lange offered to fill in for me, so I could go to Princeton. I felt I should stay with my crew, but I appreciate the offers more than you can possibly know.
Big Joe called me from Princeton to see how things were going and give me an update, just as the procession was arriving at the cemetery. At the time, I was being instructed by an 8 year old how to work the camera on my new phone. When the bikes arrived, she took off toward the other end of the cemetery, phone in hand. I learned two things very quickly: I do not move as fast as an 8 YO, and the Bluetooth connection has much longer range than before.
That little PGR and her Mom were from Colby WI, and drove 5 hours to stand for Cpl. Nurnberg. Thank You, ladies.
Lastly, Henry took his RC hat, placed a Greg Bowman memorial decal on the brim, and attached it to one of our flagpoles. I am certain Greg would have been there, and on many future missions. Accordingly, we will continue to use that pole with the hat attached, in Greg's honor. We will get Henry a new hat.
I am taking the liberty of posting this ride report on Greg's thread. I believe almost all of the PGR that attended this mission would have been in Princeton, but stood for Cpl. Nurnberg as that is what Greg would have wanted. There were many that stood for both.
To the Nurnberg family: I cannot possibly describe how sorry I am for your loss. Thank you for allowing us to attend. It was truly a privilege to stand in Cpl. Nurnberg's honor.

I have tried to write something poetic, but the words escape me.
Yes, DJ you are 100% correct, Greg would have wanted it done this way.
Even in his death he was still performing his PGR duties. Part 2 of the mission Statement, Mission Acomplisted!
To those of you that did not know Greg personaly, I have to tell you this. He was smiling knowing that with the mission for him, it kept the services of another free from outside interferance!! BTW, many people had no idea we had uninvited guests!
There are way to many people to thank, only because I don't dare taking a chance and missing any one person for all that has taken place in the past week. But thanks all off you! To those a little further north than those of us who are north. Great job!
SRC Greg Bowman our brother, thank you for all you have done.
We will continue on to overcome adversity to the Honor And Respect that all our Service Members deserve.

| The Bowman family has got to be the most gracious family I have ever met. It was my honor to meet you all sat. at Mrs. Bowman home and all of ur family. You treated us like u had known us all our lives and you couldn't do enough for us-offering us food and drink. I'm am so sorry we could not get there in time for Gregs' service. Knowing that you were surrounded by your family friends and the PGR family made me feel a bit better . Thank you so much for welcoming us into your family at this time of great and tragic lose of your beloved husband, father, brother and dear friend. Thank you also for standing so strong when DNR presented you the American flag that was sent to you by the 1477th Transportaion Co. We told DNR he had to do it because the rest of us wasn't able to speak at that time. I pray that our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ wraps his loving arms around your awsome family and holds you all very close. If there is anything I can ever do for any of you, please, just let me know. Mrs Bowman, thank you so much for ur big hug from such a small wonderful lady before I left with our Indiana gang. You will never know how much I needed that. It made my over 900 mile total trip back to Marion alot more enjoyable. | So many emotions, so many impressions and memories of a remarkable and difficult mission. The entire Bowman family standing in a receiving line for what seemed like hours, just to greet and meet each and every Patriot Guard Rider. The sight of Greg in his vest...that's when I finally lost it. Big, scruffy guys in leathers, hugging and sobbing. The priest at the church making sure the church bells were playing patriotic songs clear and loud, drowning out any unwelcome noise. The Princeton FD ladder truck maneuvering into just the right position, idling its engine. Max on 2 wheels instead of 4. Greg's loved ones riding back to their house, arms around black-jacketed angels. At least 150 bikes on the Bowman lawn from BMW to Yamaha, from Kansas, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, and Illinois. The details, like the plywood squares someone cut so nobody's bike would tip over. The warmth, concern and love of a bunch of "aging, hell-bound ruffians" as they presented the family with the quilt and flag. Dad Bowman standing there talking to every single guest, making sure he knew our names and where we were from. Greg's daughter, who said she knew how great a man her dad was, but was happy to see that we all realized how great he was, too. Greg's son, playing shadow games with Greg's German Shepherd. The clear blue sky that Greg must have arranged for us as soon as he arrived up there. Lots of tears, lots of smiles, and lots of love. Words can never express our full range of feelings on this one.
It was an honor to have met you, Greg. To the Bowman family, our condolences, respect, and gratitude. |

THE YOUNG DEAD SOLDIERS DO NOT SPEAK Nevertheless they are heard in the still houses: who has not heard them? They have a silence that speaks for them at night and when the clock counts. They say, We were young. We have died. Remember us. They say, We have done what we could but until it is finished it is not done. They say, We have given our lives but until it is finished no one can know what our lives gave. They say, Our deaths are not ours: they are yours: they will mean what you make them. They say, Whether our lives and our deaths were for peace and a new hope or for nothing we cannot say: it is you who must say this. They say, We leave you our deaths: give them their meaning: given them an end to the war and a true peace: give them a victory that ends the war and a peace afterwards: give them their meaning. We were young, they say. We have died. Remember us.

Merlene and I had the honor of having Mom and Dad Bowman stay in our home Friday night. What a great honor it was to just sit down and visit with both of them before it got too late into the night and we finally gave up and went to sleep. By meeting them I understand where the Bowman boys get their sense of morals and ethics from. I would welcome them into my home again at any time. And that goes for any Bowman family member.
Mom Bowman told us that she would be honored and proud if the u.g.'s showed up at Greg's funeral because they felt what he did with the PGR was disrupting enough to them that they felt they need to be here. And if they were here Greg would be very proud himself because he won and kept them away from bothering someone else's family.
I was impressed by the local people and government agencies that brought not just one but two fire trucks down to block off the u.g.'s from sight and from sound.
There were two little boys on a porch when we extended the flag line up to Greg's office and they came down and stood for Greg also. He would have enjoyed seeing them there.
Also to Bogie, thank you for allowing Dad Bowman to ride this mission with you on your bike in Greg's honor. I know it made Dad very proud and it was very tough for you to do. Thank you.

This is just a little note to all of you kind people who have been sending emails to the IN. group in regards to making the mission late to meet the GREAT Bowman family and present Mrs. Bowman with the flag from the 1477th. Thank you for your kind words but we feel it is nothing more than what Greg Bowman himself would have done. MISSION FIRST. It is what the PGR is all about. Caring. Caring from the heart. For everyone. I know that is exactly what Greg Bowman did and that is why he was the MAN he was. We can only live in his shadow. Anyway, just wanted to say, from the four of us, THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU ALL Ray

| My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Gregory Bowman. I just heard from my daughter that he was one of the men that was here for Andy's Funeral. Andy went to school with my boy and we are personal friends of his family. We are all sorry that this happened to him and send our heart felt sympathies to you all. |

As I reflect on our mission for Greg Bowman, I am still awestruck at the outpouring of true respect for the man that he was. Greg was our friend, confidant, mentor, cool head in troubled times, always gracious and ever vigilant of the needs of the families involved in each mission and the PGR members who came to pay homage.
That all were able to complete this most heartbreaking of missions, is a true testament to the deep respect that each of us had and has for Greg. The quaver in Bogie's voice during his briefings said it all for all of us.
As I moved through the reception line, I was able to speak with Mom and Dad Bowman briefly before moving to speak to JoAnn and their children. As I spoke with all, it brought home what a truly remarkable family there is here. In kneeling down to speak with Grandma Bowman, I couldn't help but whisper to her that I now understood where the family had gotten their strength, compassion and sense of duty and honor from. The smile and wink she gave will live with me until you all stand for me.
While we all have lost Greg physically, his spirit will live on in our hearts and deeds. |

I am so glad to hear that everything went so well for Greg's memorial and that the UGs were kept out of sight of not only his memorial, but away from the Corporal's funeral, too.
Here in South Central Texas, we weren't able to attend, but we were there with you in spirit. We talked about it Friday at the mission briefing for Cpl. Paredes in San Antonio. We talked about it Saturday at an American Legion riders event. We raised a toast to Greg at lunch during our Sunday ride through the Hill Country.
We all agreed that we would be proud to wear a patch in his honor (and I hope they will be made) that says:
"Proud To Be An Aging Hell-Bound Ruffian"!!!!!
Little did "those" people realize that they were paying a bunch of bikers a complement!
Thank you, Greg.
Happy trails to you.
