NEWS RELEASES from the United States Department of Defense

No. 515-06 IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jun 07, 2006 Media Contact: Navy Public Affairs - (703) 697-5342

DoD Identifies Navy Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a sailor
who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Petty Officer 1st Class Gary T. Rovinski, 44, of Roseville, Ill.,
died June 5, in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, as a result of enemy action when his
HMMWV was struck by an improvised explosive device.  Rovinski was assigned to
Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 25, Fort McCoy, Wis.

Petty Officer Gary Rovinski, Roseville, IL lost his life in Iraq this last week.  He was assigned to the Naval Mobile Construction Unit 25 based at Ft McCoy, WI.

I have talked to his wife and her desire is for the Patriot Guard Riders to attend services for her husband.  My condolences to her and his 2 little girls, 10 and 13.

Petty Officer Rovinski learned the cost of freedom while growing up in Mountain Top, Penn. He has numerous degrees from the College of Misericordia and earned his master's at Miami University in Ohio.  Petty Officer Rovinski re-entered the military four years ago, after friends he works with at the correctional center told him about the Seabees.

This mission will be almost identical as the most recent mission for PFC Caleb Lufkin.  Same escort mission, same funeral home, same church.  Dates have yet to be determined.

I will be the Ride Captain for this mission and will advise everyone as soon as details are available.

Standing by in Peoria. I was there fo Caleb Lufkin. Very rewarding. The people in that area are very appreciative.

When I first read this posting my reaction was; Oh No, not the same area of Illinois. They have already paid their part of the high price for freedom. Riding a bike gives you the freedom to ride any road you like. The Rovinski family now has to go down a road not of their choosing. We will try to make that road as safe and short as possible. Thank you Gary, theTomCat is standing by in Downers Grove to take you home.

Lord, if we need to do this again please have the outcome the same (all safe when mission done) just don't make it rain as hard.
