ARIZONA PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS:

I just received this message from our Brother Blind Vet:

I said that I hoped to be able to start making missions again, but never expected it to be under these circumstances. I would like to ask that the Patriot Guard Riders honor one of my blind mentors, who passed away. Harold “Doc” Powell was a Viet Nam vet who retired after 24 years of service. He was a medic in Viet Nam, and helped set up hospitals for the local population while in countryHe was determined to be legally blind in 1990, his vision loss was service connected, and he spent the last 18 years actively helping other vets to cope with the loss of their sight.

His wife Hazel asked me today if I thought my “motorcycle honor group” could escort him from the mortuary to the cemetery, where he will have full military honors. I told her I would try to get it set up. He was a very proud man, who fought right up to the end, beating esophigal cancer three years ago. A month in the hospital with pneumonia and a series of heart attacks wore him down, and he passed away April 23rd at 10:45 AM.

The visitation is scheduled for Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00, with the Funeral at 1:00 PM Wednesday at Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Ave., Glendale. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery, 63rd Ave & Northern, Glendale. <script></script>

Mike (blindvet)

Harold "Doc" Powell, rest in peace my brother, you will be missed!!

My condolences to the family and friends of Vietnam Veteran Harold 'Doc' Powell.

'No Greater Love is this that a man is willing to lay down his life for another.' Only two men were willing to sacrifice their lives for us-Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. Neither of which can ever fully be repaid.

Thank you for your Service and my Freedoms. Your sacrifices will never go unnoticed. I am grateful to live in a country made up of volunteers like you. Your choice to protect our Nation and put your self on the line can never be repaid.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Harold "Doc" Powell, Viet Nam Veteran. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. He is one of America's Heroes that will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Harold.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.
