Updated 10 May 07 1406cdt Aranel

The mission for Ltc. Marlon Thompson is now confirmed.  Funeral services
for the South Dakota National Guardsman are being held in Plankinton, SD
on Monday, May 14, starting at 10:30 a.m.  PGR members are asked to stage
at the School Gym in Plankinton at 9:30 to set up a flag line for friends and
family entering the gymnasium.   Plankinton is located off exit 308 on I-90,
about 25 miles west of Mitchell.  The school is located north of the exit.  A
sizable crowd is expected to attend services, so the school should not be
difficult to locate.

Ride Captain Tom Davis will be directing the PGR mission there.  At the mission
briefing at the gym, RC Davis will direct whether we are leading the procession to
the Trinity Lutheran Cemetary about 15 miles away or are proceeding ahead to
set up a flag line on the cemetary road.  Members able to fly flags on their bikes
are asked to please do so.   Tom can be contacted by email at:  tadct@hotmail.com
or at home at:  605-734-4286.

Members are reminded to carrry water with you, and any food you may want, as at
this time we do not know if we will be invited to participate in events following the
funeral.  We are bikers, and we dress as bikers.  Just remember that the number
one mission of the Patriot Guard is to show honor and respect for our fallen hero.

I know we will do ourselves proud.  But its not about us. Honor Ltc. Thompson as
an American Hero with  all the honor and respect he is deserving for serving our
great nation.

Ltc. Marlon Thompson, May 13-14,  Plankinton, SD

South Dakota National Guard Ltc. Marlon Thompson died last Friday while on vacation in
Hawaii.  The accident occurred while scuba diving causing the Ltc. to drown.  Ltc. Thompson
served our country in the Guard for about 25 years.

Ltc. Thomson was a bike rider and a friend of Jeff Anderson, our former State Captain
and current Ride Captain.

I am waiting right now from the Public Affairs Office, as they are going to confirm with the
family that they want the Patriot Guard Riders involved.  I expect to hear back today on
that.  PAO expects that the family will request PGR involvment.

Information is pending on when Ltc. Thompsons body will arrive back in South Dakota.
If we are requested to participate in the mission, I would like us to provide motorcycle
escort from the airport to Plankinton.  If he flies into Rapid City, the escort may require
hand-offs along the way, as that is a 250-mile ride across the interstate.

The visitation and prayer meeting will be held on Sunday, May 13, and the funeral will be on
Monday, May 14.  Times have not been set yet.  Services are expected to be held at the
Plankinton High School.  Plankinton is located about 25 miles west of Mitchell on I-90.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Major Marlon Thompson. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. He is one of America's Heroes that will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Marlon.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you: 1. Jesus Christ. 2. The American G.I. One died for your soul, the other for your Freedom.

Thank you for your service, Sir. I did not have the opportunity to serve under you when I was a member of the SD Guard but perhaps I will serve you in your next assignment. It would be an honor. Our prayers are with your family.
