PO3 Gentile,

Thank you for your willingness to defend the United States of America and her freedoms and interests. Your untimely death brings much sorrow and sadness to the hearts and lives of your family, friends, military brothers and sisters, each and every member of the Patriot Guard Riders, and all who truly appreciate their freedom. We are proud of your service and dedication in that which you believed in and fought for. Your mission is complete. You are truly an American hero and the world in which we live is a safer place because of your commitment to freedom. We will now proudly stand for you with honor, dignity, and respect. We pray that you will now rest peacefully in the arms of God. May He provide peace, comfort, and understanding to each life you touched.

To the family and friends of PO3 Michael Allen Gentile:
I wish to extend my deepest regrets and condolences on your loss.My the Lord be with you and watch over you through this most difficult of times, and may it comfort you to know that Michael is considered by many to be a true American patriot and hero. In this time when so many ignore or belittle what our military does for this great nation,Michael was willing to stand up to serve and be counted among the best that this country has to offer.
It is also with deep regret that due to illness I will be unable to attend the services for Petty Officer Gentile, but to the family ,friends and my fellow Patriot Guard brothers and sisters, know that I stand with you in my heart and spirit.
Stand tall, stand proud for this American hero.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of PO3 Michael Allen Gentile ,Thanks for being one of our greatest heroes. God Bless. And God Bless, The fellow soldiers that stands for us everyday.Thank you for your dedicated service and sacrifice to defend this great nation of ours.

We salute you , My Friend

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."

The honor mission was plagued by questionable weather as rain clouds loomed in the area from the start. Many thanks go out to the family and friends of Michael Gentile for allowing the PGR to be a part of honoring Michael and his service to our country. Thanks also go out to the Fairfield Police and the Maine State Police for stepping up at short notice to help escort us through town to the highway. The procession was long and their combined effort made getting to the highway very smooth.

When we arrived at the cemetery two of our PGR members were there with flags, one at the top of the hill overlooking the grounds and the other at the entrance, it was a nice touch and made a strong visual impact when we got there. The Navy Honor Guard was already in place with their brilliant white uniforms contrasting sharply against the lush green grounds. We quietly formed up single file and marched to a point in the distance forming a wall of flags in the background. The rain started falling almost as if God himself was crying. After the rifle volley and taps the rain gradually cleared and small bits of sunshine started to appear through the clouds while the flag was folded. The rain had stopped completely when the flag was presented to Michael's mother signifying in its own way that Michael's mission on Earth and his dedication to the service of his country had been completed and he was on his journey to God. Although not grand in scale, it was one of the most memorable Honor Missions I have been on...may PO3 Michael Gentile rest in peace.
