05 Jun 2006 7:05 PM Alert

As I sit here this morning head and heart still full of emotion from Saturday, I have been thinking a lot about how to put this into words, I am a talker not a writer. This was my third mission. The first mission I was at was in Anoka, Minnesota, for Andrew Kemples Funeral. I was asked by Andrew's cousin, who is a good friend of mine, to be at the funeral. I found out that WBC was going to be there, and I called my friend Kim to come with me. She had just heard about the PGR that day on the web, so she called the guys in Oklahoma and asked if they could send some people. Apparently, PGR was already making plans for that mission.

When I arrived, I went to stand with the few PGR members and watched the WBC pull up, I felt sickened as they stepped out of their van with kids in tow, threw the flag on the ground and pulled out the hate signs. I looked over at my friend and I could tell she felt the same.
I have never in my life felt such a presents of evil. A red hair lady that was walking into the church walked across the street to where we were and asked if I had another flag. She was a friend of Andrews sister and her name was Theresa, who was there this Saturday.. I know I can speak for myself and my friend, we did not leave the funeral with a good feeling. I felt angry that I couldn't have done more to shield the family from this evil. I have heard the argument that they have the right to do what they do and we shouldn't pass laws banning their protesting. But after witnessing this first hand, it is beyond 1st Amendment rights, this is cruel and unusual punishment for the families. Funerals are a sacred.
That goes for all funerals, if you died a hero, you died of a illness or you were executed by the State, they are all someones child who they loved. I am sorry for the long post, but I just feel that we need to keep showing up in great numbers to shield the family from this, I NEVER want to hear any mother hear the things that Andrews mother did from the evil mouth of that group.. There is Strength in numbers!!
As we all witnessed this Saturday in Welcome, where overwhelming GOOD is present, evil dare not enter.
God Bless all of you who were there in Welcome, the respect & honor was overwhelming.

I believe everyone involved that Saturday in Welcome were blessed in away they will never forget.

Thank you, Lisa Murphy (Flagwaver)

Lisa,

I hope that some people out there are seeing just what is happening, that we are doing this for a right and just cause, and in doing that we are effecting a change in things that happen.....WBC decided not to show....now I cant be 100% positive of their reason but I would have to lean towards the idea that they are starting to figure out that the American spirit is very much alive. This is only my OPINION but I feel that they are starting to get to a point where they know as long as people are going to go the extra mile to silence their protests that they will put their tail between their legs and hide out for a while.

I think that is why it's important that people understand that this isn't just PGR vs. WBC , it's people with values and true American pride and determination to make sure that in the end proper respect and honor are served...I hope that some people dont get the wrong message from this and start to think that if protesters stop showing up that we should to.... regardless of whether they are there, we can still be there to help support and honor the fallen and their families.

A cause is infectious, it starts with just a few and then it grows. This is one of the few true selfless good causes I have had the honor of being a part of... and it's worth continuing on regardless of the presence of protesters or not. The numbers are growing steadily and the word is getting out there...too often people sit and say "wouldn't it be good if someone would do something about that" well folks we are doing something about it this time. Stand up and hold your heads high...walk with pride and know that you carry with you the memories of our fallen heroes and they walk with us, they fight on with us as we serve their memory with honor and respect.

Jason

Together our silent stand will be heard farther and louder than any insult that could be hurled our way in protest of honor and respect!!!!!

Lisa, Don't be sorry. Protesters or not, you know that we will have a growing presence to honor the fallen defenders of our country.

An open letter to all of the Patriot Guard Riders who attended LCpl. Robert Posivios mission on June 3, 2006.

My name is Tom Weller, I was the PGR Ride Captain that set up the staging area in Fairmont, and had the humbling honor of leading our group to Welcome.  I apologize for my delay in getting this letter out to you all.  It was a long couple of days getting this mission planed, and when our mission was completed, I was spent.

I first want to thank all of the men and women who rode with me from Rochester and South East Minnesota for all the help you provided at the staging area.  These were the guys who some how managed to pack all of those bikes into the fairgrounds and get them all on the road without major incident.

I also want to thank all of you who participated in this mission.  Thank you for your patients, understanding, and most importantly your unwavering desire to honor to LCpl. Posivio.  What we do is not easy. It takes commitment, determination and resolve to get up at two or three in the morning, ride 200 or more miles, and stand in the sun all day to honor a young Marine that none of us has met before, to offer our condolences to a family we don’t know, and to thank a community.  Each of you has my respect and admiration.

To the town of Welcome and Fairmont, thank you for your hospitality.  Thank you for the water, the food, the first aid support. Thank you to the law enforcement community in Welcome and Fairmont for the help and incredible cooperation we received.  And most importantly thank you for accepting us into your towns to honor Robert Posivio.

And finally to the family of Robert Posivio, you have my sincerest condolences.  I hope that in some small measure that we, the Patriot Guard Riders, were able to lessen your burden, and ease your pain.  Thank you for allowing us to come to your town to honor your son.

Before I begin, I would like to thank all the members of the PGR who stepped forward and assisted, in making this Mission what it was. To Jim, Tom and Kevin for your hours of work and many trips to Welcome in preparation for this mission. To the other MN Ride Captain who jumped in did what needed to be done. And to each and every member of the Patriot Guard Riders for what you did that day in Welcome. Without your support we couldn’t have pulled this mission off.

I would also like to thank the local LEO's of Fairmont, Welcome/Sherburn, and the Martin County Sheriff, Brad Gerhardt for their wonderful assistance. Thank you for providing us with the 2 escort cars from the Fairmont Staging area to Welcome along I-90. And Sheriff Gerhardt thanks for your suggestion that we do a ride through town before leaving, many riders have told me that was the highlight of their day.

I’d also like to thank those from the Mankato Sector who went directly to Welcome to help with traffic and parking of the approximately 500 bikes. And to the various chapters of ABATE who sent members to assist us in Welcome. Without your help, this mission would have not run nearly as smooth. I’m just sorry you missed the Fairmont Staging activities and fellowship.

Because of my role in planning this mission, I was privileged to speak with family members, friends and members of the community. I have attempted to pass along the many expressions of thanks I received on the Patriot Guard Riders behalf. I just wish it had been possible for family/friends/community to personally convey their thanks each and every one of you. You are what makes the Patriot Guard Riders the fantastic organization it is. As a member of the leadership team, we can do all the planning and behind the scenes works, but it is YOU that makes the mission a success, not me or any other member of the leadership team. Give yourself a well deserved pat on the back.

With approximately 500 motorcycles in Welcome that day, I must commend each and every one of you for helping to convey the ideals of the Patriot Guard Riders. Honor and Respect were something that each one of you demonstrated that day. I was very proud to have played a small part in this mission. Each and every one of you furthered the positive reputation of the Patriot Guard Riders, and motorcyclists as a whole.

When asked to move into the shade and drink water, many of you didn’t want to leave the curb where you were proudly holding the American Flag. In the future, I hope each one of us remembers the lesson learned, bring lots of water with us, and drink lots of water.

To those who circled the cemetery, keeping press and sightseers from disturbing the family, I tip my hat and say Thank You. And the family thanks you.

To those who lined the street from the church to the cemetery, you were fantastic. The family and community will long remember your actions that day. And yes the sacrifice you made to get there, standing in the heat as long as you did, but most importantly, the degree of HONOR and RESPECT you showed the family and community. I’m still getting comments from the community about how much they appreciated our being there.

While we are as diverse a group of individuals as one could find anywhere, we come together as brothers and sisters with two common threads; a love of motorcycles and most important our love of country and those who defend her on our behalf.

God Bless you Lance Corporal Robert G. Posivio III, thank you for your sacrifice, you will always be in your hearts and mind.

Respectfully submitted,

George H Winslow, Jr.
