Updated 17 Aug 08 1802 edt S Sturgis

 Staging time and location for this mission will be 1045, at the White Funeral Home in Summersville, WV.

The family will arrive at 1130, and we need to stand up the flag line by 1100, or very shortly thereafter.

We will be providing escort from the funeral home to the cemetery, so those of you who can, please come prepared to fly flags from your bike, or cage. The staff of White Funeral Home wants us there early, in order to park us in the appropriate location to lead the escort.

Please be on time and everyone needs to remember to bring their 3x5 US flags.

Directions: CAUTIONGoogle Maps and MapQuest both show an incorrect location for the funeral home.

   If coming into Summersville on Rt 19 from the south, turn left at the first stoplight, which is Route 41 / Broad Street (look for the Dairy Queen). Go approximately 1 mile and the funeral home is the large two-story white building directly across the street from Go-Mart. If coming from the north, turn right at the sixth stoplight (Rt 39 / Arbuckle Road) and go about 1 mile to the “Y” intersection and look for the large two-story white building (White Funeral Home) directly across the street from Go-Mart. If coming into Summersville from the west on Rt 39, look for the large two-story white building directly across the street from Go-Mart as you come into downtown.

   Johnny passed away unexpectedly this morning, 15 August.  He was a Veteran of the Cold War Era, having served during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the pastor of a local church and a biker.

   Final arrangements are currently pending but it is anticipated that services will not occur until the early part of next week.

   Co-Ride Captains for this Mission of Honor are Buddy Palla and Pat Hanifan.

   Once again, the PGR is being called on to "give back" to one who gave of themselves so many years ago.  Please monitor this thread and make every effort to stand for another of our Veterans.
Respects,
Joe

   Thank you, Johnny, for your service to our country during those very troubling times.  It is because of Veterans, such as yourself, that we continue to live in the greatest Nation on Earth.  May God welcome you with open arms as you approach the Gates of Heaven.

   May your family, friends and community find comfort in God's healing and mercy.  May they also realize that you will continue to watch over them from your place among the Angels.

   Stand at ease sailor.  Your tour is now complete.  May you have fair winds and following seas.  God Speed Johnny.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to "Johnny" Griffin for his service to our country. Over the years, many have chosen to stay at home during wars/conflicts, but it’s the “warriors” who make the difference…the ones who give of themselves, the ones who give up time with family and loved ones…yes, they are the ones who will always be remembered as the true heroes. May God give an extra measure of strength and comfort to the family and loved ones of "Johnny" at this most difficult time. America should never forget those who have helped protect and sustain her throughout her history. For your service to America, Sir, I salute you.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, William.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."
