It was and is today men and women like Capt. Mauldin who made this country so great. People like him who were willing to sacrifice their time and unfortunately their lives to protect us at home.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family that went so long without any answers and hope this will help to bring some closure.
Godspeed Captain, I hope you can look down and see that there are plenty who appreciate what you did.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Capt. William K. Mauldin,Thanks for being one of our greatest heroes. God Bless. And God Bless, The fellow soldiers that stands for us everyday.Thank you for your dedicated service and sacrifice to defend this great nation of ours.

We salute you , My Friend

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."

Ride Report

Captain William K Mauldin was a true American hero. He stood for us in the face of the enemy during World War II, and gave his life in the defense of freedom during the Korean Conflict. Thank you to the family for allowing us to pay our respects. It was an honor today for the Patriot Guard Riders to stand for him during the graveside ceremonies. PGR members from Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina stood in the flag line. Two of the PGR members present today were Korean War Veterans. Thank you to all who came today. A special thanks to Beth Gray for bringing the flags and the cold water.
To begin the mission today we rode from the staging area to the cemetery. Another group was already there waiting for us when we arrived. Thanks to Larry and Willie T for directing our entrance and helping to get the bikes lined up. We set up our flag line in front of the bikes. We had 37 motorcycles and four cages. The weather was sunny and hot. We held the flag line as the hearse and family members arrived. After the casket was carried by the Air Force Honor Guard to the grave site, we then formed up our flag line behind the family and visitors. There were six tents set up at graveside and an additional tent for the news media.
There were a number of speakers at the service today. The Air Force Honor Guard provided military honors with a 21 gun salute, the playing of taps, and the folding and presentation of the flag. At one point in the ceremony, the family and friends stood and walked outside of the tents to observe an Air Force flyover. Two propeller driven aircraft similar to the one flown by Captain Mauldin flew over the ceremony in tribute. When to service ended, we returned our flags to the van, mounted our bikes and started them all at the same time. Those present now understand what “Listen for the rumble” means.
To paraphrase the words of “Amazing Grace”, Captain Mauldin “once was lost but then was found”. After 56 years he now will rest in America, the country for which he gave his life. Rest in peace Captain Mauldin.

Today was something special, my Dad was in Korea also. Though gone now he would have been proud of you guy's today who stood for Captain Mauldin.

Denny did a great job with little sleep from driving all night from Iowa and still fulfilling his R/C duties. He also did multiple media interviews today and did a fine job. He did you guy's proud.

Bethiemae, Thanks for doing the cage duty. I think if more people realized how the cages are so important we might have more attendance from those who did not ride.

I wish I could name you all from out of state and those that were in pain but stood anyway for this extended service in the heat.
