INLAND EMPIRE....SAN GABRIEL VALLEY RIDERS AND OTHERS WEST.
Meet at McDonalds on the 210 Freeway at the Irwindale exit. When exiting, go north to the McDees parking lot. Our route will be south on the 605 to the 5 traveling to Oceanside. IE riders can return via the 15 freeway. Makes a nice loop trip. Make sure you have a full tank of fuel as it will be over 100 miles. There is a fuel stop near McDees Irwindale.
Meet 0930 KSU 1000

"Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm hath bound the restless wave, Who biddest the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep; Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea."
--The Navy Hymn, played at funerals to honor Presidents (Navy LT John F. Kennedy, Asst. SECNAV Franklin Roosevelt and recently LCDR Gerald R. Ford)--now respectfully offered to honor this shipmate of ours, CAPT Alan Lovelett, USMC (Ret.).
Hopefully it's a comfort to family and friends to see how many "strangers" fall in, in cyberspace and (those who are able) in person in Oceanside to render honors.
Also hopefully it's a comfort that this veteran's days were spent among some good friends. An admiral's send-off speech to us once observed: "there are two things of which you can be sure when you go to war: one, you will be changed, you will not be the same again and, two, you will form some of the best friendships of your life."
Soon after 9/11 we Americans got another example of the huge number of our unknown shipmates--when the German ship Lutjens drew alongside our USS Winston Churchill (DDG-81), respectfully flew our flag at half mast and exhibited a sign, "We support you."
"Like ships passing..." you family and friends of CAPT Lovelett may not know most of us--but we're here with you.
"Fair winds and following seas," shipmate.

Ride to honor memory of Dad (WW II Army) who taught me the meaning of patriotism and uncles (Korean War Army and WW II Navy). |

MISSION COMPLETE
It was a cool ocean morning when 14 bikes and a cage met at Eternal Hills Cemetery in Oceanside to honor retired Marine Captain Alan Lovelett. Patrick/RC briefed the PGR members with times and location of the flag line. At the end of the memorial the family and friends attended Military Honors by the Marine Cadets. A 21 gun salute was followed by taps followed by the folding and presentation of the American Flag. The Patriot Guard formed a circle around the flag pole flying our American flag.
Alans wife Cathy greeted each of us and expressed her gratitude for our attendance. Cathy and family, it was our honor to be there for you.
Patrick, for your second Ride Captain mission you honored us with your professionalism. Thanks to Jimmy who provided cold water and as always, what an honor to have Smoke, our 85 year old Patriot ride with us.
Respectfully submitted for Patrick RC,
