Kelly and family. My heart goes out to you and I pray for your peace and comfort at this time. You know how we feel about our heroes; and your Grandpa is definitely one. We'll miss you today, but my pegs will be down for your Grandpa as will everyone elses.

To the rest of the Henion Family, thank you for sharing such a wonderful hero with us. And remember "Til we meet again"...he's getting things ready. "Families are Forever".

Rest in peace, Sgt. Henion. May God bless the family and friends of this gallant Fallen Hero, finding some comfort in knowing that the gratitude of a grateful Nation is expressed and felt by many. Kelly and Gary are shining examples of what the PGR is and should be, and I am sure that the influences from folks like Sgt. Henion are part of the reason they are. Your tour of duty, Dexter, is complete...you have served faithfully and well...now, rejoice in the arms of those who have been waiting for you and who have prepared a special place for you in the ranks of American Heroes. I echo something I have heard Kelly say many times..."Heaven must have needed another hero"...You, Dexter, now have a new position and you will not be forgotten here on Earth as you carry forward those values and traditions you have left us with.

It was an honor today to join my fellow PGR members in celebrating the very long
and productive life of Dexter Henion. I am sure Dexter is smiling down on those that
came to say..... goodbye, my old friend. To the family of our hero, thank you for the
kind words you shared with all of us. It was our honor to be there for you.

To our many PGR friends in Utah, that wished they could have been here today, you were
with us in spirit as we stood the flag lines at present arms.

Fellow riders and drivers, when we left Corona it was 108 ! Thanks to Jimmy and
Joes Stryker mom for the cold water. It was certainly needed today. All of you are heroes
to me for being there for Dexter. The summer heat is upon us. Ride safe and keep
hydrated. Ride Captain Borg did a great job of keeping us informed and coordinating the
road guards. John Paul led the escort with a large American flag flown over a base in Iraq
in the faces of our enemies. It was a fitting tribute to our soldiers to follow our American flag.
SMOKE, our 85 year old veteran of WW2, it is always an honor to have you ride with us.

First, I want to give my heartfelt condolences to Grandma Hennion, Larry, Linda and the rest of the family.  Although I did not get a lot of time with Dexter, I did get a chance to have a conversation with him about his military experiences.  This surprised Kelly because she said she was never able to get him to discuss it in the past.  That conversation, though my rmemories of the content are vague, gave me an insight into his character and I immediately gained a deep respect for this man.  I enjoyed a couple of evenings of playing board games which I had hoped I would get a chance to do again.  Larry and Linda, your father was a hero.  He fought for the freedom and security of our great nation.  He was a part of the greatest generation.  I wish I could have been there to honor him.  But many Utah members that were part of an escort with me today, rode with their rear pegs down, in honor of Dexter, after a moment of silence was observed at our prebrief.  My heart and my thoughts were with you all.

Second, I want to thank the fine members of SoCal PGR.  Every report I have got back was exceptional.  Thank you for honoring Dexter and showing the respect you did and making this service special for the family and friends in attendance.

Third, Kelly, I love you and miss you.  Hurry back!

Thank you for your willingness to defend the United States of America and her freedoms and interests. Your death brings much sorrow and sadness to the hearts and lives of your family, friends, military brothers and sisters, each and every member of the Patriot Guard Riders, and all who truly appreciate their freedom. I would like to express my PGR gratitude to the family of Sgt. Henion for giving us the opportunity to honor Dexter on his final journey. The grace and compassion demonstrated to us was awe-inspiring. It was a true honor. I hope Dexter was looking down and smiling. And Grandma Henion, a special thank to you for allowing us to get a grandma's hug from you.
May God bless Sgt. Henion and his whole family.

Joe's Striker Mom and Jimmy, thank you so very much for the much needed water you provided for us. The slightly elevated temperature made that water much welcomed.

Borg and all other co-RCs, great job. Thanks to all the Road Guards: even if Borg dared to put me in charge (?), you made it so easy for me. And to all other PGR brothers and sisters, I am always honored to ride with you.

Kelly:

Matt just called to let me know of Sgt. Henion, "Grandpa's", transition from life to life.

I feel no sadness for him, for to me grief is the most selfish of emotions ; "I" no longer have him. He is no longer there for ME when I want to talk to him, or need his advice and counsel; "I" miss him. That to me is very selfish.

If you truly believe your life's teaching, you know there is no need to worry about him, for he has advanced in the scheme of the Universe, not regressed. THAT is reason and occasion for joy, and that joy is the most pure of all human emotions.

No, I feel no sadness for him - but for you, and for the members of your family, I grieve deeply, and offer my deepest and most sincere condolences, for the loss is yours and you must feel it deeply. Every day I keenly feel the loss of my own grandfather, and am sure it shall be so with you.

Naturally, I will not be able to be present at the services, but I've changed my plans for today.

Rather than spend the evening watching a movie I'd planned to see, I am going to drop the rear floorboards on the Yamaha so Sgt. Henion will have a place to ride, then go up and over Guardsman's pass on a one-bike ride -just your grandfather and myself.

There is a place up there high in the Wasatch range of the Rocky mountains, a place of peace, a place where I occasionally go when the world seems a bit much, when life becomes too oppressive. It overlooks a large, peaceful valley, green with grass and aliive and vibrant with the late spring flowers; as the sun sets the shadows lengthen over that valley, closing the last few pages of the book of today.

As those pages are closed, my thoughts will be of you and your family, and of the sacrifice and service of your grandfather. Though he and I never met we were Brothers, and as the last glimmer of light fades over the lea he and I shall together close the last cover of the book of today - and of his life on earth.

I hope you and your family find the same peace and comfort this act brings to me; you know you have all our love, respect and support, and if there is anything in the world we can do, you have but to call.

With love and sympathy,

Jim & Dee -- Starwalker & Cagerkitten.
