Pfc. Dawid Pietrek earned my respect and gratitude when he volunteered to serve our country in the United States Marines. To me, he IS an American hero. His efforts to make the world a safer place will be remembered with honor and appreciation by this American family.

Though words are inadequate, please accept my heartfelt condolences as you deal with this terrible tragedy. I cannot express the depth of my sorrow as I consider what Dawid did for me. He died protecting me and my family while defending the freedom we enjoy from those who would take it away from us. The debt that all Americans owe Pfc. Pietrek and his family cannot be repaid. I will do the only thing I can do and that is to stand for him in the coming days.

I just want to send my condolences to Dawid's family and friends. I knew Dawid as he was my father's caregiver last year for a month until my father passed away. David was studying for the Marine's and was very excited when he found out he passed. He was so eager to be a Marine and eventually become a police officer. He was incredibly mature for his age and extremely diciplined and respectful. He was a typical young man in that his pride and joy was his car but he was dedicated and ambitious in a way that inspires other people. I am saddened that his talent will not be fully realized but he was doing exactly what he wanted. Thank you for honoring this young man who I will never forget.
