Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Eric Johnson, Army (ret), Veteran. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. He is one of America's Heroes that will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Eric.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

I am going to try to relay the feelings I had as I arrived at the Follis Funeral home for Eric’s visitation.

This was a first for me, I have ridden many missions but never had I been put in charge of making sure, everything was done as the family requested. To top it off I had emails from some GA members telling me one of their own, Eric’s Uncle Benny was planning on standing the flag line with us. I was looking forward to meeting him as every one of them told me what a great person he was, but I was also a little nervous hoping everything was done to show the family the honor they and Eric deserved.

I arrived at the funeral home to find the director a little apprehensive about having the PGR in attendance. I was met with some questions about exactly what we did. Now I at first had a hard time believing they had never heard of us. As I talked to the director, he told me they had a service for a “motorcycle group” member about a year previously, only to have the bikes line the drive and proceed to cut grooves in the parking lot, by burning their tires off. I assured him we were not a motorcycle “gang” and we were only there to show respect to Eric, and his family.

My explanation seemed to quell his fears and he told me anything we needed, just ask. One hurdle over come, so I could breathe a little easier.

Chanel, and Dakota, each grabbed a flag and we made our way to form a flag line before the family arrived. There were two other missions that day so we were spread a little thin, of members, but as I told the kids, even one PGR member could show respect. As we stood there, Eric’s mom came up and thanked us, then his wife, and kids. Soon the entire family started showing up, thanking us for being there.

Uncle Benny went in and spent a little time with the family then came out to man the flag line. We visited, and I found him just as great as his fellow GA PGR members had said. Visitation was cut a little short due to bad weather coming in, and when I went in to tell the family the kids and I was heading home but would see them Sat. morning for the service, they told me I didn’t have to, they would understand. I told them we would be there, its what we do, I couldn’t say how many would be there but I knew there would be more.

Saturday morning we arrived, and soon bikes started to show up. They came one, two, at a time until there 10 of us, some familiar faces, some new faces but all there for one reason. All were there to show Eric, and his family respect.

As the family started arriving, Mom and Dad came up and said you made it back. I told them yes, I said I would be there, it was what we do. We were invited in for the celebration of Eric’s life, and yes that is what it was, a celebration. There were stories, pictures, and laughter and yes some tears but all combined to paint a picture of a life well lived, a life enjoyed, a full life.

It was humbling to be there and share in Eric’s life and I would like to thank his family for allowing us to be there. I would also like to say thanks to Benny for standing the flag line Friday night, it was an honor, Sir.
