Upper Michigan Area Bikers invited to honor John LaChance
 
     John LaChance, from Perkins, MI,  was 61 years old when he died on January
6, 2008. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. His rank at discharge
was Pfc. He was part of the Army National Guard Company at the Gladstone, Michigan
 
armory for his duty. 
 
     John was an avid motorcyclist and his wife Helen and family have asked area
motorcyclists to honor John  with an escort for his burial on Friday. All Patriot Guard Riders,
ABATE, and CMA members and all area bikers are invited to participate.
 
     We will stage at 1:30 PM, Friday, June 13th at the Skradski Funeral Home,
706 Wisconsin Avenue, Gladstone,  MI.  We will set the flagline and at 2 PM escort the hearse to the Perkins cemetery which is approximately 15 miles north of Gladstone.
  
      We will re-set the flagline and pay final respects to John at the cemetery for his burial ceremony.
      Please bring your flag to honor this fellow rider who served his country.
      Ride Captain for this mission will be Al Salmi.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED:

Warm thanks to ALL who showed up today to honor John LaChance for his service to our country. We had about 25 - 30 bikes and about 40 total riders show up representing mostly PGR. But we also had ABATE, CMA and A Head members standing with us. At least 7 or 8 attended their first PGR mission and we signed up at least 3 or 4 new PGR members. It was a beautiful ride and the committal service was handled well. We lowered the cemetery flag to half mast and stood a double flagline on both sides of the grave.
The public safety officers in Gladstone guided us through all the intersections and led us to the city limits for which we are thankful.
Altho' John was Catholic by faith, his priest didn't show up and was filled in for by a pair of Baptist ministers who happened to be there, one of whom is also a PGR member who rode with us in full leathers.
John's widow, Helen, and their daughter Danielle and John's two grandsons (from Ft. Lauderdale, FL) thanked all the riders profusely. I presented her with a printed copy of all the condolences which were submitted on this website. (Thanks for the example Joan, PGRLabLuvr in Bonita Springs, FL!)
Overall I feel our group handled themselves with perfection and I'm sure we made the sad occasion a memorable experience for John's family.
PGR has been invited to a funeral picnic in the Gladstone park on Lake Michigan in Gladstone which is where we are headed now.
