Mission complete for TSgt. Edward L. Fryer
It was an honor to be invited by the family to participate in this service. We stood the flag line on Wednesday, from 6-8 pm. Ruffy drove the flag truck, Mug, RJ, and I all rode our bikes. We allowed the little ones to sit on our bikes while the parents took pictures. The kids enjoyed it. We were also approached by a local LEO, who was out riding his bike. He wanted to know what was going on. We explained what we do. I think it peaked his interest, as he ask to get on my email list.
On Thursday the 12th, Ruffy once again drove the flag truck, and I rode my bike. The 2 of us went to Ft. Scott National Cemetery and set flags there. Then we headed over to Nevada, Mo.(a distance of about 25 miles). As we came into town we stopped to fuel up and flagged up the vehicles. Then headed over to the Ferry Funeral Home. Ruffy and I were plenty early, so we parked in the shade and waited. The first rider to show up was a guy named Ray(Nite Train), from Denver, Co. When he told me his name, I couldn't believe it. Ray and I had emailed back and forth over a year ago. What a surprise. I asked Ray if he knew the family, he said no he was staying at his sisters in Arkansas. The other riders began to show up. Mike, Steve(Milkman), Bud(Barefoot Bud) from Joplin, Mo. Cliff(Mug), and wife Joyce(Shorty), from Exeter, Mo. Ruth(Ruffy), and I (Stretch), from Mulberry, Ks. And Rick from ElDorado, Ks., who did know TSgt. Fryer.
As the service concluded we began to line up for the escort to the cemetery. The RC(Mug) ask me to take the lead with big flags, along with Milkman. We had one LEO(Law Enforcement officer) to lead us to the state line. Deputy Sheriff Ron Beckman. Thank you Ron for your support during this service. Deputy Beckman left us at the state line and we were on our own.
At the Ft. Scott Cemetery we again formed our flag line and held it until the service concluded. We stowed the flags, and then had quality time with the family, at their request.
The long distance riders headed out to try and beat the weather. I hope all made it home okay. Thank you all for your support.
