My condolences to the family of LCpl Smith during this time of loss. Also my thanks to Mr. Smith for his service to our country. The saying "I wasn't there, but I still care" fits perfectly. I appreciate all that you have done for us.

May your sorrow be tempered by the fact that we are honoring a true hero who answered the call to serve his country and dedicate a precious segment of his life towards freedom.

I pray the lord takes you into his Kingdom and may you rest in peace. You will not be forgotten "A True American Hero"! I Salute You Sir! I will be standing there in Spirit with my fellow brothers.

**** Mission Accomplished: Honor line for LCPL George A. Smith ****

With a light breeze blowing, at a shady little private cemetery in Mason County, WV, one more American hero was laid to rest today. The Patriot Guard Riders were honored to stand for George A. Smith, a former United States Marine Vietnam veteran. Five members of the PGR were present to show honor and respect for George and his family. Present were Joe Cumblidge (SC), Steve Inman and Buddy Palla (RC) from WV, “Groundhog” from OH, and Don McClusky who drove all the way in from Mt Airy, NC for this mission of honor.
Others present were three very sharp and professional US Marines from the INI Staff, Alpha Company 4th CEB (Cross Lanes, WV)…thank you SSgt Williamson, SSgt Handley, and Sgt Blount for your participation at the graveside. These fine young Marines provided flag folding/presentation services, as well as the playing of "Taps". Members of the American Legion Post 139 from Milton, WV provided the rifle squad and salute, and we wish to thank them, as well.
The family was most appreciative of the PGR flag lines, both at the funeral home and the cemetery. At the graveside service, a PGR plaque was presented to Mrs. Smith by Buddy Palla, and she expressed her sincere thanks to him.
Though George Smith may not have received a proper welcome when he returned home from Vietnam many years ago, we all did our best to ensure he received the proper honor and respect he deserved, today.
