Updated 10 June 08 0759 CDT Sandra

Buddy Palla (deaconbiker) is the Ride Captain for this Mission of Honor.
I have posted some updated information in the following text.

Staging for this Mission of Honor will be at 0915 onTuesday, 10 June 08.

Staging location: American Legion Post #139, 1207 Main St., Milton, WV  25541 (304) 743-3149 (
http://tinyurl.com/yqqxlh).

Directions: From I-64, East or West, take exit #28 (Milton).  Coming from the East, turn left after you exit; from the West, turn right after you exit.  Continue South till you come to Wendy's Restaurant and bear right on U.S. Route 60W.  At the first light, bear slightly right (do NOT make the right hand turn) by the antique stores.  Go approximately .2 miles to the Legion, located on your right.

Our flag line will be in place prior to 1000 and will be maintained until start of services at 1100.

We will not be providing escort to the cemetery. After the start of the service at 1100, we will depart the funeral home and make our way to the cemetery. The cemetery is just under ten miles from the funeral home. ***NOTE*** Be advised, the last 6 tenths of a mile will be on a gravel road. The road is hard-packed, and should not pose any problems (even if it rains). Parking at the cemetery is limited, and our bike parking will likely be in a grassy area, so bring something to put under your side stand. I will bring a few extra plates for those who forget.

Please bring (or stop and purchase) a bottle of water, and keep yourself hydrated during the mission, as it will likely be quite warm again.

One other safety-related item I need to warn everyone about are the cicadias (locusts). Locust activity in Putnam and Mason counties is "high", and if one of them hits you in the face at 50-70 mph, it will hurt, severely. I was wearing a jacket and full-face helmet this evening on the "recon" and got drilled numerous times; one was squarely in the middle of the face shield. Be careful, and at a minimum, wear some quality eye protection.

Please make every effort to attend to pay Honor and Respect to another Hero who was not afforded this upon his return home so many years ago.

Keep track of mission information at:

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to George A Smith for his service to our country. Over the years, many have chosen to stay at home during wars/conflicts, but it’s the “warriors” who make the difference…the ones who give of themselves, the ones who give up time with family and loved ones…yes, they are the ones who will always be remembered as the true heroes. May God give an extra measure of strength and comfort to the family and loved ones of George Smith at this most difficult time. I salute you, Sir, for your service to the United States of America, you truly were, and will always be, a hero.

LCpl Smith, for your willingness to answer your country's call to arms during a period when such service was not looked upon favorably by many, I humbly salute you sir.  You showed the true definition of "Hero" to all.  May God welcome you with open arms as you approach the Gates of Heaven.
