Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Jeffrey Keyser Jr., Veteran/Firefighter. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. He is one of America's Heroes that will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Jeffrey.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

Great news, Dino!  Looking forward to seeing you folks again.

And Big Joe ... hope you make it there Mr. Ironclad   :)

And thanks for reminding me about FUEL.

FUEL STOP
- Exactly 5 miles east of the Shawnee Valley VFD on Route 30, where we'll be stopping for nearly an hour at the ride's mid-point, there is a gas station.  CoGo / Best Way.  It will be open.  This ride is about 60 road-miles, so even the smallest tanks ought to be good if you gas up before starting out.  Many gas stations along Scalp Avenue near the Richland Fire Hall (our starting point), but they're all east of the fire hall.

Some folks last year got gas there (at CoGo's) and then continued east to Rte. 56 instead of re-joining the group.  That's certainly fine, but that part of Rte. 56 (east of Rte. 96) is under major construction.  We rode it during our initial scouting ... unpleasant.

Take care,        Joe

Lead Team & Sweep Team ... we  need a few more folks for these.  Anyone plan on being there on a trike?  Please let us know if you'd be willing to serve as part of the Sweep Team.  We'd like to have several people ride with PR in the back to make sure anyone who needs to pull over has assistance.

Planning is coming along well with support from local police departments & fire companies providing intersection control along the way.  Jeff Keyser, Sr. will be in the chase vehicle with an EMT ... one of the Richland Twp VFD vehicles with lights on all the way.

Come join us if you can.

Take care,        Joe

Good deal, Lee.  See you then.  Please come as early as you can ... I'll be showing up around 1:30 or 2:00 (after the parade), but PR Mathias (Ride Captain supervising the Sweep Team) will be there earlier. He'll be the big guy with Marine Corps insignia, big friendly smile, etc.   :)   George & Pat Gross will be there at our tent-booth, too (to supervise PR) ... and be sure to introduce yourself to Jeff, Sr.

The Route is shown on my 6-13-08 post (above), but we will be handing out Route Sheets to all riders.  It's a simple & scenic route.

Thank you,       Joe

We just finished Jeff, Jr.'s bio and received Jeff, Sr.'s approval.  Thought I'd share that with y'all
------------------------------

Jeffrey J. Keyser (Jeff Keyser, Jr.) was born and raised in the Johnstown , PA area.  After graduation from Conemaugh Valley High School in 2002, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served our country until 2006 when he was honorably discharged at the rank of Airman 1st Class.  His permanent duty station was Travis Air Force Base in Sacramento , CA

"Junior" was a Fireman with the Richland Township Fire Dept. since 2002, having been a "Junior Fireman" prior to that since 2000.  After his separation from the military, he was a "live-in" volunteer firefighter with Richland Twp FD.

On August 22nd, 2006, Jeff, Jr. was separated from his family, his fire department family, and this world as a result of an accident while riding his motorcycle in the Johnstown area.  We gather for this Memorial Ride to honor his life of service to his family, country, and community ... and to raise money to fund the contruction of the Jeffrey Keyser, Jr. Memorial Training Center at the Richland Township Fire Department.

 Please donate towards this cause as you are able.

 Sponsored & organized by the Richland Township Fire Dept.  Endorsed & supported by surviving family members and the Patriot Guard Riders.

What better way to honor the memory and life of such a fine man, than to participate and donate to something that continues his service to, and pride in, the community. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Saturday's Memorial Run.

Also, if any local members are able, we are in need of a 3x5 US flag to hang on the back wall of the welcome tent at the Richland Fire Dept site. Also some cord, tape or other fastening methods (in case Joe, PR, or myself can't remember for tomorrow). and the RFD has great food, drink, and fun activities. Hope to see you there.

Well ... the Memorial Mission run is tomorrow.  Got rained out last night, but the flags were furled & secured + the tent withstood the wind without damage, and the lightning struck elsewhere.  Great light-show by Mother Nature on the way home, and thank God for rain-suits ... but I coulda done without the FOG    :)

A very big "THANK YOU" to our primary tent-tenders so far:  PR, Kristen, Altoona-Mike + Mary & Johnstown-Mike ... and please forgive me if I missed seeing you or forgot to add you here, but thank you also to the others who helped answer questions, hand out brochures, etc.

Everybody BE SAFE ... hope you can join us tomorrow to honor the memory of Jeff Keyser, Jr. & hope you can stop in today if you're around.

Ride Report

98 bikes + 51 passengers, including some family members & friends & followed by Jeff Keyser, Sr. in the Fire Dept chase vehicle had a great, safe ride through some of the most scenic areas we have to offer here.  It was a fine memorial ride for Jeffrey, Jr.

We had some rain on the ride, but it wasn't bad ... actually kind of nice on a hot day like that.

It sure was  nice to have all the intersections controlled so professionally for us, too.  Many thanks to our team:  Jeff Keyser, Sr. for intersection arrangements, chase car piloting, and so many other things ... Simpleman, Pastor Ron & Kristen on the Lead Team ... PR, Tom & Stretch back at Sweep ... George & Pat manning our booth before, during & after the ride (and for the tent) ... Lumptaz, PR, Kristin & others for manning the booth at other times ... the VFW Post in Schellsburg for the great parking lot ... Shawnee Valley Fire Dept for the food preparations & lot ... Richland Twp Fire Dept for being such fine, helpful hosts ... and all of those great Police & Fire Depts. for intersection control and escort help:  Richland Twp PD & FD, Paint Borough PD, Windber PD & FD, Shawnee Valley FD, Central City FD, Alum Bank FD.  And finally, my apologies to anyone I've missed.  Many people stepped up and helped make this a successful ride.

Nobody got hurt, donations increased, and we raised awareness of the effort underway to build the Jeffrey Keyser, Jr. Memorial Training Center.

Thank you to all participants and helpers.  It was a great team-effort and a great memorial ride.

Joe
