FIRST COAST HONOR AIR

Flight #3

Orange Park, FL

31 May 08

Patriot Guard Riders we have once again been requested by First Coast HonorAir to escort 100 Veterans of the Greatest Generation to the Jacksonville Intl. Airport. They, like their Brothers before them will be traveling to Washington, DC to visit the Memorial built to Honor the men and women whom served our Country with Honor and Distinction during WWII. Including remembering those whom paid the ultimate sacrifice and did not return home to their families and communities.

The Veterans are arriving at the High School 0630hrs. After the opening ceremonies these Veterans, spouses and their escorts will board their busses. We will then escort them through Orange Park on Blanding Blvd. to I-295 then to Jacksonville Intl. Airport.

Even though the weather was not on our side for the previous escorts. These men and women were so thrilled that we came out to support them. And while they entered the airport, standing there shaking their hands thanking them for their service and to have a good flight. These men walking on their own, with canes and in wheel chairs even those you could tell whose memory was slipping. Returned the thank you faster then it could be rendered.

Staging: 31 May 08

Orange Park High School

2300 Kingsley Ave.

Orange Park, FL.

0645:   Staging

0715:   Load busses

0745:   KSU

Unlike the first escort there is no registration fee; Dan Finch has requested donations towards the cause. So they may continue their efforts of getting all First Coast WWII Veterans to see their Monument. As mentioned previously, the funds for this trip were slow in coming, almost to the point of canceling the flight. A benefactor stepped forward and “loaned” them the money to keep this flight on schedule. Donations are needed to pay off this loan and to hopefully provide a fourth flight.

Ride Captain for this escort to be announced later. As I just received a call from Dan Finch, one of the Guardians has had to step down due to illness. I have been given the Honor of being a Guardian on this trip, so I cannot be the Ride Captain as well.

I had volunteered through the USO to be there to send them off. I am glad to know we will be escorting the buses. See you in OP. What a great honor.

Should we bring flags for this mission? Wil there be a flag line or just an escort?

I can assme the WWII vets arrived in Washington ok, saw their memorial and returned home ok? Any word on the gentleman the ambulance took away? I really hope he's ok. To go through the BS he did during WWI and to have a problem just before the plane ride to Washington just is not fair. It was a great honor to be in the escort for these WWII heros and I thank them for what they did...preserve our way of life for my generations and generations to come.
