Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. Blake W. Evans,Thanks for being one of our heroes. God Bless. And God Bless, The fellow soldiers that stands for us everyday.Thank you for your dedicated service and sacrifice to defend this great nation of ours.

We salute you , My Friend

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."

Great job, guys.

We must have done an excellent job of shielding both casket and family from the media.  Here's one of the stories:

To Blake's family and friends, It was an honor being there today for Blake. I am very sorry we could not get the "missing man" tribute flyover that he so deserved due to poor weather in Waukegan.

It was an honor to be able to be there. I only wish it hadn't been necessary.

When the PGR says they don't care what you ride, or if you ride or if you're even a veteran, they mean it. I don't ride and I'm not a veteran, yet here I am.

It was a large turnout. Thanks to all, I understand some of you have to miss a day of work, and that is a big sacrifice. Bless all who came and stood showing moral and emotional support. It IS a good thing the PGR does. Hope all had a safe trip home and thank goodness it didn't rain. Rain at events such as this really takes me down.
My condolences to family and friends of Blake. Sorry seems to inadequate at times like this. Know that there are many who care for and respect the men and women who defend our country. May God speed the healing of your sorrow.

Family and Friends of SGT Blake Evans.

Please know that my family grieves with you in your loss. Know that each day I was standing a flag line, or escorting your loved one, I was fighting back tears (and not always winning that fight).

Rest easy Soldier.

We will not forget your sacrifice.

As a longtime co-worker and friend of Blake's parents, words cannot express the strength and support you have given all of us the last few days. You were professional, courteous, caring and oh, so patriotic. I noticed one of you assist a lady who was having difficulty with the church steps...as she was leaving the the mass. Your line broke for a moment then..but I noticed your heart! And thank you from the bottom of mine for all the time and effort all of you gave for our hero from Rockford. All of you shall now be in my heart....

Couldn't have said it better myself.  Sergeant Evans stands guard over us all eternally, and for that sacrificice we are forever indebted.

What a wonderful job the military did rendering his honors, as well.  I was glad to see such a large detail and such an outstanding job.

It's never a good day when you have to say goodbye to a friend, but it seems we did our job well. Kudos in particular to our leadership, who helped make things run as well as they did.

Thank you Sergeant for what you've given us.  Comfort in our homes, the knowing that we can sleep at night without fear, a constitution you protected.  You gave your life so that others may taste the freedoms that piece of paper guarantees all Americans.

Let the world know the comfort you gave us and may your loving family know and remember the love you shared while you were here.
