Greg, It's Official JUNE 1st 08 we will have a very large Memorial Service for the 29 Veterans that are buried in the River City Cemetery for the indigent and homeless. They are mostly Viet Nam Veterans and a few WW II/Korea. I would really appreciate the PGR coming to this. I promise that it will be first class.
I will meet the people Monday from the Parks Department that is over this Cemetery and get all the names and mark the graves with stakes.

Memorial Mission:

June 1st 08 1400 Hours 2 PM
I would like for all the PGR to get there at 1 PM or before to set up. I would like a PGR member  to hold a Flag at each of the 29 graves spread out across this field step forward and raise the Flag up when I read the Name of the Veteran where they stand.

River Valley Cemetery 5400 Cane Run Road at Lower Hunter Trace along the Ohio River next to the huge LG& E Power plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

29 Veterans found buried in the Louisville City Cemetery buried without Honor. This is for the homeless and indigent and there are very few head stones.
I'm working on getting them all a head stone.

Thanks to each and everyone of these 29 veterans for their service to our country to protect freedom for my family and others. I extend my family's prayers and condolences to the family and friends of each one of these brave and uncelebrated heroes who served when called and made the ultimate sacrifice. May each of you rest in peace and that we never forget your sacrifices nor that of your families.

God Bless these heroes and comfort their families.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you: 1. Jesus Christ. 2. The American G.I. One died for your soul, the other for your Freedom.

These Veterans, the count is now up to 29,  paid the ultimate price for our freedom and I am honored to be allowed to stand for them as they finally get the recognition they are due.  May we not rest until we have found all of our unmarked Veterans and give them the full memorial service that they so justly deserve.   Walt you are doing an incredible job.

I will be there and am bringing some people with me.

Ezekiel 25:17: The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the Valley of Darkness; for he is truly his brother's keeper, and the finder of lost children.

Whatever I do will be insignificant, but it is very important that I do it. (Gandhi)

I will be honored to stand for these vets. May they get the respect they deserve. I will meet up with you in NKY for the ride down.

Stand proud my soldier

For my armed forces I proudly stand, thankful for their sacrifice flag in hand.
They gave their life so mine could be free, they held the line just for me.
Their lives were given for God and country, not for the glory or for the money.
Their shift was long and their pay was short, they proudly stand now in Gods court.
He smiles upon them and takes their hand, at attention in heaven they proudly stand.
You’ve done your job and I ask you in, at ease my soldier you’re now among friends.
Here above you can watch and see, that old glory still fly’s and your country is free.
So many like you are here and their lives they gave, so their family’s can be free and your flag can wave.
There is a flag draped coffin just for you, the colors upon it are red, white, and blue.
For awhile your family may take it hard, but for you and for them stand the Patriot Guard.

FREEDOM ISN'T FREE

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease...

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea.
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still;
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.

I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea.
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

FOR THOSE WHO MAN THE BATTLE LINE,
THE BUGLE WHISPERS LOW,
AND FREEDOM HAS A TASTE AND PRICE,
THE PROTECTED NEVER KNOW...

* * * * * * THE PRICE OF FREEDOM IS WRITTEN ON THE WALL * * * * * *

YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN

As I read this post on Memorial Day 2008, I pray that these 29 American Hero's will be remembered always for the sacrafices they have made for the safety and freedom of our nation and that they will indeed receive a most dignified and honorable funeral service. I cannot attend in person but I will be standing there in spirit.

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth , nor any other created thing , shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:38-39.

What an Honor to be able to be a part of this Memorial. It's probably been a long time coming amd I am sure that the veterans were looking down and hopefully realize that no matter what they are not forgotten. May their rest be even better now.

It was an honor to be present for such a great cause. To know that those servicemen finally got the Respect and Dignity they had earned while serving our country was touching.

Thanks to all who were able to make it to the service in the scorching heat. Your presence meant much to the few families and dignitaries who were in attendance.

Walt, brother, fantastic job! Your efforts to honor those deserving men will be remembered by all in attendance for many years to come. Don't hesitate to ask should you need us with you ever again.
