***** UPDATED INFORMATION ***

Official word received from FRG this morning indicates the 111th EB is now OUT OF THEATRE and on the ground in Kuwait, arriving at 0200 EDT today.

At the present time, weather conditions remain good and they are merely awaiting their flight to begin their journey back home.  This COULD, and I can only emphasize COULD, take place later today.

The date of this mission remains somewhat fluid as the FRG reports their return to West Virginia SHOULD be 5 days after their departure from Kuwait.  Leaving today means they will be return home on 5 June.

I apologize for not being able to give concrete dates on this but, as you are all aware, when working at the mercy of the military, we operate on their schedule, not our's.

Additional information will be posted as soon as it is received.

Thank you for your diligence and patience in awaiting word.
Respects,
Joe

Welcome Home 111th Engineering Brigade
Eleanor, WV
Monday, 9 June 2008
The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to participate in this happy occasion.
Currently the unit is scheduled to arrive on 9 June 2008, but as we all know, unexpected things can happen when you're trying to come home from the "sandbox". Please use this date for tentative planning only; flexibility is the key because dates and arrival times are subject to change.

We will stage at the Go-Mart located at Greenbrier St and Rutledge Rd.
Stage: 12:30 PM
Brief: 1:00 PM
KSU: 1:30 PM
Flagline: TBD

All folks participating in Flagline please be sure you have a 3'x5' American flag.
If you are on a bike, you must have a DOT approved helmet when riding on a military installation.

Buddy Palla will have to escort PGR particpants to, and through, the main gate, and you will need to remain with him while on station. We are the invited guests of the 111th Engineering Brigade, and Colonel Tim Frye, 130th Airlift Wing Commander. Let's have a good showing for these returning troops!

More info will be provided as it becomes available.

NOTE: If you are not at the staging location on time (i.e., prior to our departure for the base), you will not be able to get on base. Current PGR members who work at the 130th are obviously exempt from this...we will meet you at the reception area (most likely Hangar 2).

Co-Captains: Buddy (Pup) Palla & Bob "TBone" Smith

Good Morning All,
Just a bit of GOOD news, for a change, around here.  The 111th Engineers have OFFICIALLY closed the latest chapter in their lives!!!

As of, approximately, 0130 this morning, they put the "lid on the Sandbox" and are headed home.  They are flying into Germany, first, then departing for Fort McCoy, WI.  According to the FRG, the fight to Germany may take up to 8 hours and, if their last deployment is any indication, they will be departing there within a matter of minutes for the flight to American soil.

As reported previously, their arrival date in West Virginia SHOULD be about 5 days after their departure from Kuwait, meaning we can expect them to be home NLT 7 June.  This date is, naturally, etched in jello (to steal a phrase from Tom Epperly...LOL!) but we will know more after they arrive in Wisconsin.

Please, folks, this entire unit has spent the last year doing very dangerous work under conditions the majority of us cannot imagine.  We had a great turnout when they departed and I'd love nothing more than to see us top that number to show our appreciation and gratitude to them when they return.  Do whatever it takes to make yourself available for this Welcome Home!!
Respects,
Joe

Good Evening All,
Let me start this post with two very simple, yet important words:

THEY'RE   BAAAAAACK!!!!!!!

Received a call from the FRG stating the 111th EB has returned to American soil!  They arrived in Maine at approximately 1730 and anticipate departing for Fort McCoy, WI around 1815.  According to members of the unit, they are to be in Wisconsin between 2100-2200 this evening.

Time is drawing near folks.  It won't be long before these Heroes return to their friends and loved ones in West Virginia.  We hope to have a definitive date nailed down within the next 48 hours.  Please continue to monitor the mission thread and make every conceivable effort to welcome these men and women back home.
Respects,
Joe

Good Morning All,
I just wanted to make a posting to let all of you know that good old fashioned Red, White and Blue Patriotism is alive and well in another section of our country.

In speaking with Becky Krushansky this morning, whose husband is a member of the 111th EB, she informed me that upon their arrival at Bangor (ME) International Airport yesterday, they were greeted by upwards of 100 Veterans, employees and ordinary citizens who formed a line for them to pass through while saluting and applauding their return to American soil!!

In checking the web site of the airport, I have learned they have a group called "Troop Greetings" who make it their business to know when our men and women are returning from overseas and show up in force to welcome them home.  As of August 2007, they had greeted their 500,000th soldier!!!  This is something they do of their own accord because, just like the PGR, it's the right thing to do.

I would encourage each of you to do exactly as I've done and visit their web site.  Click on "Contact Us" and send them a brief note of thanks for the way this particular airport, and state, treats our returning men and women.  Go to http://www.flybangor.com/index.html to do this.

I cannot emphasize enough how great it would for us to be able to match, or exceed, the size of the our welcoming party when these men and women return to the Mountain State.  Please do all you can to ensure that you're able to attend.
Respects,
Joe

Joe,
The group you are referring to is The Maine Troop Greeters

Maine also has the The Freeport Flag Ladies

Both of these groups are wonderful Patriots, offering a hand shake, a pat on the shoulder, a cell phone to call home; to all our service members as the come and go at Bangor. They both post daily pictures on their website's and will mail a photo to a requesting family also.

Good Morning All,
To the best of my knowledge...there are photos posted on the Maine Troop Greeters web page of the 111th EB arriving in the terminal at Bangor International Airport.  I asked Debbie Bickford, a member of Troop Greeters, is these are INDEED "our" folks and she states that she believes they are.  Unfortunately there's nobody in there that I recognize with absolute certainty (by name) but a couple do shake some of the cob webs loose from our Send-Off mission.

If you've a mind, take a look at them at http://mainetroopgreeters.smugmug.com/Troop%20Pictures%202008.  Just click on the photos from June 2008.

Joe

Anyone who wishes to send your thank you to the folks of the Maine Troop Greeters, even if you've already done so through the airport site, Debbie Bickford provided me with a direct link to their web site.  You can go there and click on "Post a Comment" in the lower left hand corner of their main page.

Respects,
Joe
