Whitmire SC - the land that time forgot

14 May 2006 12:21 PM Alert

We have been invited to participate in the 1st Annual Armed Forces Memorial Day Ride in South Carolina.  This is the first "official" ride but it has unofficially been going on for quite some time.  Up until now it's been primarily a function of the Low Country Chief Petty Officers Association.

The ride will leave the Summerville VFW Post 3433 and travel about 80 miles to the Beaufort National Cemetery, stop by the Beaufort VFW Post and then return to the VFW in Summerville.

Refreshments will be available.  Any donations will go 100% to the Disabled American Veterans Association.

Come and enjoy the camaraderie of VFW members, fellow Patriot Guard Riders, and a bunch of Navy Chiefs.

Ride with us to a place of honor on Memorial Day 2006 (29 May 2006).  This year you can actually do something to remember why there is a Memorial Day.

Staging:  VFW Post 3433 - 10154 Bellwright Road - Summerville SC

Kickstands Up:  0900

Special thanks to PGR's own Command Master Chief Kevin Trillo for the invitation.

Hello everyone,

I would like to invite all of you to ride with us this year on Memorial Day to honor all of our hero's both deceased and those currently serving. As with most Memorial Day functions we are obligated by our freedoms to remember those who gave all, but this year I want to remember the current members of our military both overseas and state side. While I have served in the "liberation" of Americans in Panama, Desert Shield/Storm and Iraq Freedom at the "Tip of the Spear" we tend to forget those serving in the states, lending vital support to the personnel at war or just away from home. I have been blessed to have served this great, great nation for 25 years and I want to share my experiences with everyone I meet. I hope to see you all there on Memorial Day @ 0900.

Ride safe,

Kevin Trillo

I have asked Sandy Nelson "Carolina_Reb" to serve as RC for the PGR portion of this happy mission.  Sandy will coordinate with Chief Trillo who is way too busy with other aspects of the ride to take on the PGR responsibilities as well.

Thanks Sandy.......go have fun!

My Bro-in-Law is a CPO. Getting a bunch of you in one place has got to be entertaining. I'm sorry I have to miss it but I'll be riding back from DC that day.

I would recommend to anyone who wants to get out and do something upbeat with the PGR to try to attend though. It should be a good time.

Ride Safe.

You're right, Dennis. It promises to be quite an event. Kevin is doing a superb job of getting everything arranged. I can only imagine the work that is involved, but he and Theresa are doing everything humanly possible to make this a ride that we will carry in our hearts for a long time.

Sounds like you're headed to Rolling Thunder. Ride safe, my friend.

Yep joining the crowd (all 500,000+ of them) for the first time.  I'm not big on crowds so we'll see how this goes.

Click on this link to go to the address on Mapquest:

You're probably familiar wtih Mapquest: click on Zoom In or Out as needed to the left of the map, and you can put in your starting address (below the map) to get turn-by-turn directions.

Hope that helps!

Well Patty.....I dunno.  The short answer is "no, I don't think so" but one should never underestimate the powers of a shnook.  And I are one of them.

If I do show up I'll most likely leave a really angry Redhead up here to do it.  That's okay.  Redheads are really pretty when they're mad.  You just have to know exactly where the burst radius perimeter is.

Now, this re-register business.  Why did you have to do that?

The VFW in Summerville can be easy to miss..so I will have a sign with balloons (red, white and blue, if I can!!) on Hwy 78. Look for a small plaza called Two Mile and an auto garage "Carolina Auto". The road has a street sign, Bellwright, and it is a dead end road.

We made a trip to Beaufort yesterday and meet some of the great vets there.. interesting bunch!! They want to ride with us from their VFW to the cemetery.

Looking forward to seeing you all!! Ride Safe!

It now appears that this mission is a "go" for me.  I'll be riding down on Monday morning in the company of Stan Holman from here in Laurens, his wife Jessica and possibly some other riders as well.

I look forward to joining you folks in the Low Country in a ride to honor those who have protected my rights while I enjoyed peace and safety.

Hey Cargo, are you leaving out on Monday as well?  Maybe we can hook up as we sail through your area?

Will the VFW in Summerville be open for coffee and restrooms? One generally leads to a need for the other. Joebasta

The Low Country CPO Association and VFW Post #3433 seem to think of everything. I've heard there's going to be coffee/breakfast pastry. I bet they've got the coffee:gottago factor covered, too, and that restrooms will be available.

See you Monday!
