My prayers are that our GOD may bring peace and comfort to all of you during this tragic time. Please know that not just me , but a country full of people like me owe you a debt that can never be repaid. We know that your loved one is now serving in the Army of our LORD in heaven, and the LORD said if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and recieve you unto myself that where I am there you may be also. I thank you for the sacrifice you and your family have endured so our nation can remain the home of the free because of the brave. We are all brothers and sisters in arms and we don't forget one of our own, rest in peace my comrade, your mission is complete and now it's time for you to rest. Mr. Mayers,
Thank you for your willingness to defend the United States of America and her freedoms and interests. Your death brings much sorrow and sadness to the hearts and lives of your family, friends, military brothers and sisters, each and every member of the Patriot Guard Riders, and all who truly appreciate their freedom. We are proud of your service and dedication in that which you believed in and fought for. Your mission is complete. You are truly an American hero and the world in which we live is a safer place because of your commitment to freedom. We will now proudly stand for you with honor, dignity, and respect. We pray that you will now rest peacefully in the arms of God. May He provide peace, comfort, and understanding to each life you touched.

I'll humbly ride today to honor this World War II veteran, thinking of my late WW II veteran father who literally taught me the meaning of Patriotism and from whom I first heard quoted--in his day (1930s-40s) it was the presidential candidate Wendall Wilkie as I recall--
"America would not be the land of the free if it were not also the home of the brave."
My dad's eyesight kept him from going overseas so he ran recruits through the Indian Town Gap (Pennsylvania) post. I recently visited that site where you could now see remnants of streets with names like "Philadelphia" "Scranton" etc., punctuated by where the barracks used to be. Those street names, no doubt, made those Pennsylvania recruits feel "right at home" as they headed for the life and death adventure of their lifetimes. (Remember how comfy cozy boot camp was, my brothers and sisters?) This country, because of veterans of the caliber of Vincent E. Mayers, shall never, never be defeated, ultimately. Just look at the "strangers" who step forward at these PGR events and online across the country.
"Fair winds and following seas," shipmate Vincent Mayers as we Navy types say. Your brave service to your country shall not be forgotten.

Ride to honor memory of Dad (WW II Army) who taught me the meaning of patriotism and uncles (Korean War Army and WW II Navy). |

MISSION COMPLETE
Twenty Two PGR Members met at the church in Riverside. When the coach arrived, with our hero Vincent Mayers, we formed a flagline to the church as six PGR members escorted Vincent and the family into the church for the service. At the end of the service we again escorted Vincent to the waiting coach. A missing man formation then preceded the coach and family to Riverside National Cemetery. A flagline was again formed to honor Vincent as he was carried to the outdoor chapel. The honorguard fired a volley of 21 shots and a bugler played taps. At the end of the service a flagline was again formed for Vincents final journey. We are honored to be able to participate in the ceremony honoring Vincent for his service to our country. Our generation is privilaged to pay its respects to the WW2 veterans that fought for our freedoms we hold so dear. May Vincent rest in Gods loving care.
