MISSION NOTIFICATION

This notice serves as a preliminary notification of a confirmed mission on Monday, 5 May.

We have been requested by the family of retired Lincoln County Sheriff and Army National Guard veteran Stephen V. Southwick, age 62, of Dietrich, Idaho to honor his life and service to his community.  Services are scheduled for Monday, 5 May 2008, at 1100, in Dietrich.  Sheriff Southwick passed away on 30 April from injuries received in a motorcycle accident earlier in the month.

I will know more tomorrow after meeting with Sheriff Southwick’s son, but at this point, our involvement will consist of an escort from Demaray Funeral Home in Shoshone to Dietrich High School (approx 12 miles), and a flagline at the high school (where services are to be held).

There may also be an escort involved to Liberty, Utah (near Ogden) where Sheriff Southwick will be buried, on Monday, or possibly Tuesday.  I am in contact with the Utah State Captain to ascertain if his membership is able to meet us at the state border (details pending).

Assignment of Ride Captain is pending.  For now, please direct any questions to me at DesertDoc_Idaho @ yahoo.com.

I apologize for the short notice.  For planning purposes, please contact me if you are able to support this mission.

Continue to monitor this thread for updates.

To Sheriff Southwick's family, please accept the heartfelt condolences of the Patriot Guard Riders for your loss.  May cherished and loving memories support and sustain you over the next days, weeks and beyond. Know that your hero has joined heroes past who have gone before.  We are forever indebted to his sacrifice of service to his community and to his country.

Respectfully -

My heart is heavy with news that a fellow LEO has passed. May God bless and comfort the Southwick Family, Friends, and LEO Comrades in the days to come. May you find peace knowing that Stephen suffers no more and has been welcomed home by many with open and loving arms. His departure from you all , though it be untimely and seemingly unfair, is but for a short time. Stephen, my LEO Borther, I salute you for your courage and commitment to your community in being the Guardian of peace and freedom, the Protector of those who could not protect themselves, and the Warrior who brought to justice those that would cause chaos in our society. May you rest in peace and ride with the angels. I stand ready to honor you as the Fallen Hero you forever will be in our hearts.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Sheriff Stephen Southwick. You will be missed “Brother”.

“The Badge”
(and those that wear it)

By: Terry Longpre

They put on and adjust their uniforms so neat,
And most carry their Badge over their hearts.
They adjust their hats and strap on their guns,
They are the heros, they are the ones.

They are our brothers, sisters, mothers and dads,
They are our neighbors and our friends.
They are cousins, uncles and aunts,
And they are ones that listen to our rants.

They are young and they are old,
Most went to college, some did not.
Some are tall and some are small,
But they wear the Badge, one and all.

They place themselves in the line of fire,
They even sometimes rise our ire.
And yet they seek those out who want to do us harm,
But they walk the "Thin Blue Line", arm in arm.

They might be shot or hit by a car,
And some might be knifed in a bar.
They work all night and during the day,
And in courtrooms it seems they stay.

Most wear uniforms, some don’t,
Most will retire, some won’t.
Most have short hair, some have none,
But all carry a Badge and a gun.

Be it silver or gold,
Be it a star, shield, new or old.
Their Badge they will always respectfully hold.

They do things we can’t contemplate,
They protect us from the daily chaos.
They go home tired, sometimes crying,
Some don’t go home due to dying.

To Serve and Protect is their pledge,
One day you may see them talking to someone on a ledge.
And their Badge they wear so proudly,
Yet, you won’t hear they speaking very loudly.

They have wives, husbands and children at home,
All families hope that late night phone call doesn’t come.
There are bills to be paid, which may require a second job,
Yet they still go to work to face a noisy mob.

When you see someone in Law Enforcement,
Give them a smile and shake their hand.
They have given an oath to protect what we have,
They are dedicated to protect our land.

May God Bless them one and all,
For only He knows when they may fall.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Stephen.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.
