Spc. David P. McCormick, 26, of Bay City, Texas, died April 28 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his forward operating base came under rocket attack. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. David P. McCormick, 26, of Fresno, Texas, died April 28 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his forward operating base came under rocket attack. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

As I get ready to write to you, the words fall away as almost meaningless because of the pain I know you feel. I know, because I have felt that pain.
Know that you are NOT alone on this difficult path. Others are there to help you: reach out and embrace them, for they are offering not only themselves, but sharing with you that little bit of the Almighty that resides in all of us. This offering/sharing is what WILL give you the strength you will need to get thru. Trust me.
Any service related death, whether accident or illness, wounds received or KIA, warrant the Gold Star for the family. Don't let anyone tell you different.

David served to give us the freedom we now enjoy so much and for that he is one of the GREAT AMERICAN HEROS of the land. God bless your family and friends. Wish I could have shaken his hand and told him thank you myself. God tells us that “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13) As Christ our Lord laid down His life for us that believe in Him for salvation, so your love one has laid down his life for us for our freedom. Thank you, SPC David P. McCormick for your service to this Nation. It is because of Patriots such as you that I, my family, and the rest of this great Nation are able to lead the lives we do. It is the soldier that gives us freedom, not the politicians. Only two people ever died for our freedoms. One was Jesus Christ and the other was the American Soldier. The least I can do is pay homage and respect to this Hero and his family.
To the family of this American Hero: We as a Nation grieve with you in the loss of one of our Nation’s best. His adherence to “Duty to God and Country” will not be forgotten. Death is a time to rejoice in the life someone had and the lives they touched on this earth. Life is but a blink of an eye. May the Great Architect take this Hero and his family into his council, protect and heal them.
