Matt Miles is coming home 1st May. He was in Afghanistan when he was wounded. Along with his wounds Matt lost a leg. Matt is coming home to Manhattan, Kansas in a private Jet at 130 PM or 1330 PM 1st may 2008.
The family has invited the Patriot Guard to welcome Home Matt Miles. I hope that you will come and help me welcome home this Hero who has sacrificed for us and our way of life.
I will Have a "Support" our Troops flag for everyone in attendance to sign to present to Matt at the Airport. I will also have twenty flags for 20 people to hold so Matt has a small avenue of flags to walk thru as we salute him to welcome him home.
Staging will be at the Manhattan Airport near the "Traffic Tower" @ 1200 pm or 1200 hours 1st May 2008.
I have made arrangements with the FBO to create an Avenue of Flags as his plane lands and at the departure door.
We will choose 4 members with big flag bikes to escort Matt and His Family home to Junction City so we will need volunteers for this "escort Home".
I hope that you consider participating in this welcome home for Matt Miles.
Thank you, Ever your servant.

| The Welcome Home for SFC Matt Miles went off smoothly and successfully.
I want to thank Chuck " Macgyver" Ford for bringing his 200 3 X 5 American Flags, and also for speaking to the Sheriffs Department for me. I also want to Thank Chuck Bramhall Spiritual leader of the CMA of Manhattan for acting as our Chaplain and saying our "thank you Prayers for our soldiers and the safety of our Riders today.
I wanted to thank the Geary county Sheriffs Department for all the support they gave us. Also the Riley County Police Dept and the Junction City Depart for helping our Escort for SFC Miles successfully and Safely Accomplished. Job Well done Lady and Gentlemen!!!
We had about 20 Big flag Bikes and 20 more small flag and bikes show up to Welcome Home SFC Miles.
I also wanted to thank the Ride Captain from Saint Joeseph , Missouri who rode all the way to Manhattan to help us.
At about 1300 hrs we stood in front of the gate that SFC Miles was suppose to arrive at. At 1330 hours his private jet taxied down the runway.
Once the Gates were opened we created an Avenue of Flags for SFC Miles. On exit off the plane I called all Riders to Attention. I also had his boys released from holding flags so that they could welcome their dad home.
I Walked up to SFC Miles shook his hand and welcomed him home. Once he was almost ready to go I called the Riders to fall out and mount their Bikes after putting their flags back on the trailer. Some of us stayed to help with SFC Miles bags and wheelchair. Got them on the truck.
Once SFC Miles and his family were in the Tahoe I pulled my bike After Cpt Popaviches Vehicle and the Flagg bikes followed me with SFC Miles Vehicle and the Truck with his luggage. Then the bikes without flags and the other support vehicles followed.
At Exit of the Airport we followed the Sheriff's Vehicle. The Riley County Police stopped traffic at the Airport Exit and two traffic lights before we crossed into Geary County.
The Sheriffs Vehicle Led with lights flashing and and sirens sounding.
The Junction City Police stopped traffic at two traffic lights on 77 and on 14th Street.
Turned into SFC Miles neighborhood and escorted him to his door. At that time we rode the loop of his street and returned to his driveway. Stopped all the vehicles and I presented a welcome home flag to SFC Miles that all riders signed.
Invited everyone to come up and shake SFC Miles hands and welcome him home.
I want to thank everyone who came to welcome SFC Miles home. Without your support this would not have been as successful as it was. THANKS!!!
Ever Your Servant

Pops, we felt honored to Welcome Home Your friend SFC Miles. Here is an Article from the local newspaper " Ther Daily Union".
Below is the article that was posted today in our Daily Union Newspaper on the Welcome Home for SFC Miles that was provided yesterday. To view the article click: http://www.dailyu.com/newsdetail.asp?article_id=1256 Chuck
Wounded Vet Escorted by Law Officers, Patriot Guard 5/2/2008 #1256
Some might say Silver Star Day, a day to honor all wounded war veterans, is the perfect day to welcome home a wounded soldier. For the Miles family in Junction City, there was no question it was that perfect day.
The roar of about 40 American Legion Riders and Patriot Guard motorcycles and the sirens of Geary County Sheriff’s Department and Junction City Police Department vehicles echoed through 14th Street Thursday, letting residents know that Sgt. 1st Class Matt Miles of Fort Riley’s 70th Engineer Battalion had returned home.
Miles had been in Afghanistan for seven months before he was wounded in October 2007. Since then, he has been going through rehabilitation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Miles explained that this was his first opportunity to take leave.
“These guys are all great Americans,” Miles said, refering to members of the sheriff’s and police departments and the American Legion Riders as he leaned on his crutches and sons Tyler, Ryan and Nathan checked out his prosthetic leg.
The most enjoyable part was seeing his family again. He said the last time he saw his wife, Maria, and three sons was at Christmas when they made a trip to see him.
Mother-in-law Anne Splett of Arizona was present to welcome Matt home and has been helping taking care of the kids since the day he was injured, she said.
“It has been quite an experience. It’s been awesome,” she said. Splett reported that the escorts were extremely nice. She said Riley County police officers escorted Miles and the motorcycle riders to the Riley County Line, where Geary County Sheriff’s deputies escorted the procession to Junction City, where the local police officers escorted Miles and his family to their door.
“I was overwhelmed, I am so happy,” said Mrs. Miles as she described the feelings of anticipation at the airport and of the day as a whole. “I felt so honored,” she said, adding that she and Miles weren’t expecting such a huge procession.
“My husband usually doesn’t like big deals made of him. When he found out, he was like, ‘Oh no,’ but I’m happy that they did it. He deserves it and it is neat for the boys,” she said.
