The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family of SGT Scott Turner to join them in honoring his memory in a memorial service to him.  The service and tree planting in his memory will be Saturday, April 26th at 3:00 PM.

In October 2007, shortly after returning from Iraq, SGT Scott Turner was killed in an accident during a routine training mission in Kansas.  While his parents attended his services in Kansas, most of his family and friends were not able to attend. The services for him in Kansas were a Patriot Guard Riders mission and Scott's dad and brother have joined the PGR.  Scott did not hesitate to stand for us in Iraq; it is our turn to stand in his honor.

This mission will be a flag line only.

Itinerary:
April 26, 2008
24228 Twin Lake Drive
Land O Lakes, FL

Staging begins:  2:00 PM
Mission brief:     2:25 PM
Flag line:           2:35 PM

Ride Captain: Dave "Greek" Koutroubas

Sgt Scott Turner, your willingness to server and protect our beloved freedom go beyond words. We will forever be in your debt young man. Rest assured you will NEVER be forgotten. May your rest in honored glory with those who have served and sacrificed before, and since you ended your mission here on earth. You have found that peace that we all strive for. I pray your loving family will find peace in their hearts with this ceremony in your honor.

It will be a great honor to stand the flag line for you, your family, and friends.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of SGT Scott Turner. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. Know your son was and is a Hero to us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always. He will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Scott.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

Started out to Turner residence at 11:00 hours Saturday morning, with Spud and Steve from South Carolina.  Although he came down to attend another function, he trailered his bike down just to be able to ride the Turner Mission.  We set a time to hook up with Rev Hawk and met him at Hernando airport and the four of us rode into Land o Lakes arriving at McDonalds on US41 at 12:30 hours.

Because of the staging change and not being sure that sure all got the word; I decided to leave present PGR group at at McDonalds and ride for the Turner residence. I met Bob Turner and verified they would leave at 14:15 hours and pick me up on their way out to McDonalds. I then left the residence and backswept out to main artery - SR54 - and positioned myself to intercept any incoming riders and divert them to McDonalds.

All went as planned and the Turners with one of Scott's riding partners left as scheduled to McDonalds. Upon arriving we said quick hellos and had a quick briefing after which Scott's brother and parents led 15 bikes and 3 cages back to their residence for the tree planting.

Flag line was established in a quick and orderly fashion across the front yard and down one side. with many family members and friends in attendance Bob Turner started the tree planting ceremony. At the conclusion the Gold Star Mothers group made presentations and the ceremony was ended. at this point i slowly and quietly walked the flag line and told PGR that saluting the marker placed at the base of the tree is optional but that i intended to do so if they wished they could follow my lead. Every PGR opted to do so and i was very proud of the fashion they did it.  PGR were invited by the Turner family to stay for drinks and food and the mission was over.

As it turned out, the McDonalds that i later thought was a poor choice by myself for a staging due to traffic problems turned out to be the location of Scotts first job. I thank the Turner family for allowing PGR and me to honor Scott's memory and his service to our country.
