To the Family of Sgt. German, you have endured much pain, and you will remain in my thoughts and prayers. May you draw strength from that which motivated your son, so amazingly; what a truly awesome inspiration he is and will always be. God bless you and I pray that God grants you peace, as your loved one is so now also at peace and lifted high.

Thank you for the mission you gave to your life in protecting our freedoms, and striving to give others, theirs. The lives of you and the men and women who have gone before you are raised high, and not given in vain. I honor you, and pray that our children will learn to do the same throughout coming generations. God bless your family, and may they keep their memories alive and rejoice in the life of a hero.

It is ok to cry, be sad, feel cheated, guilty, exhausted, or just plain empty at times. By showing these emotions it does not say that you do not have faith. It shows that you are human and you are going through a process because of the loss of Merlin. I will truly miss passing you all through out the hospital. It would always bless me to see how patient his parents were with Merlin. Through it all they displayed strength and loyalty. I pray that the Peace and Favor of God continues to be upon the German’s Family. Prayer: Father, we come boldly before your throne of grace praying for The German's Family. Your word tells us to pray for those who are afflicted. So as intercessors, we stand in the gap and lift up The German's Family before you in prayer. Father, your word says that you are the God of all comfort, who comforts our hearts in times of tribulation. We therefore, call upon you, on The German's Family behalf, and we pray that you comfort their hearts. we pray that you would be their inner peace; and may you flood their minds, hearts, and entire life with your peace. The peace that passes all understanding. We pray during this time of trouble and sorrow in their life, that you help The German's Family to find refuge and strength. Lead them to your secret place. Lord in your secret place there is rest, peace, security and comfort that is only found in you. We pray that you would also renew The German's Family strength. May you become the lifter of their head, and give them the courage and strength they need to face each coming day. We pray that this loss would not devastate or destroy The German's Family faith and trust in you, but may you elevate their faith and bless them to continue to trust in you, and your awesome word. We also pray for every family member, friend, and all others that are grieving and hurting over this loss. Lord may you also be their strength, and comfort each of their hearts and lives. Now father, we commit The German's Family into your hands. As we have prayed your word over them, we thank you for giving them Restoration, Strength and Determination through the strength of your word and comfort of your Spirit. In your name we pray, AMEN!

As I get ready to write to you, the words fall away as almost meaningless because of the pain I know you feel. I know, because I have felt that pain.

Know that you are NOT alone on this difficult path. Others are there to help you: reach out and embrace them, for they are offering not only themselves, but sharing with you that little bit of the Almighty that resides in all of us. This offering/sharing is what WILL give you the strength you will need to get thru. Trust me.

Any service related death, whether accident or illness, wounds received or KIA, warrant the Gold Star for the family. Don't let anyone tell you different.

I offer you my services, such as they are. If you want to talk, feel free to get in touch with me thru the PGR messaging. I WILL return your call/message. ANYTIME!

In the meantime know that my wife's and my prayers are with you.

Merlin German was one of my patients. During the last 2 years I have not met a man so courageous, strong, or cocky. MARINE. I have become close to his mother and father and am honored to have shared good and bad times with them all. What a beautiful and supporting mother. What a strong and humorous father. I will miss them all.

SGT German, Stand down, Rest in Peace. Your watch and pain are over. We have the watch.

Sgt German, you are a true example of a REAL American hero. It gave me chills to ready your story. I am so sorry for the difficult battle you had to fight. I know you must have inspired so many people on your journey; and that you stand now a hero at heaven's gates, along with all our fallen warriors who have gone before you. You rest easy now, Merlin, and know that you will be forever remembered here.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. As a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. To the family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of what you are going through-my son, a Marine LCpl, was killed in Iraq. I pray wonderful memories of your dear warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Your hero will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve.
